   If you ask me this youngster had a guardian Angel with her that night. From the contents of what was in the turnk she surely would likely not have been returning home let alone walking from that hotel.

   Anyone know if this guy had a record?

   I agree though there has to be a point somewhere that parents stop and look at these cases and take a active roll in their children’s online activity. Things are just not safe for these youngsters to be online with no one around.

   These days I wonder do parents do that anymore?
   I know I have seen many a kid that needed a good spanking and talking too. Most parents now days seem oblivious to what little Susie and little Tommy are doing even when they are standing right there with them. Drives me NUTS.

   If not spanking they should be having some serious open talk time to get to the bottom of why she felt that it was Ok to do such a thing and explain further to her just why her last visit to Myspace would be when she deleted the account and that the computer would no longer be in her room or used for online time unless I was there in the living room at the time able to look over at the screen at all times and then it would be used only for homework or visiting places I approved

   I am so glad my kids do not put me through crap like this. My son got mad at me for even telling a friend who I have known for over 6 years his first name. Mind you the woman played Christmas Angel and adopted my kids one year so she knew his name. He never knew that though and seen me type his name and about blew a gasket telling me how I should never give out our names. Could not really get mad after all that is what I have pounded in his head for the last few years.

   I think we have to accept the idea that people about age 12-18 are a kinda crazy. They do not know what they’re doing. Stuff they think is a good idea one minute they deeply regret the next. I saw a video of teen boys skateboarding off a roof into a pool. They’re confused, figuring things out, often caught up in the moment or the thrill in risks and newness of all sorts. They rant one minute then feel bad about themselves for it the next. Even kids calm on the outside are a little crazy on the inside. We can’t say “not my kid.” Yes, my kid, all of our kids. They’re temporarily insane and need us over their shoulder.

   Oh and I have to think these parents have something going for them if the kid felt she could call them from a hotel at night. Most kids would feel they could not call and then they would be in truly dire straights.

   Kids that age are meant to rattle the cage, push the limits, figure out where they end and their parent begins. Kids slip away from good parents sometimes. The real test of you as a parent is if they can call you in the middle of the night and say “I fucked up bad, save me.”

   They’re nuts. We’re responsible for them. Sure we lay it on thick when they get home, but we have to remember, they won’t be the same in even 6 months. Don’t make your kids feel bad about themselves as people. Say “it was a Mindnumbingly Idiotic Thing To Do.” The kid isn’t a mindnumbing idiot. She’s just a kid. If you make her feel irredeemable, she’ll be chronically in trouble. Make her feel relieved, like she dodged a bullet, safe, and eventually forgiven and, after a long while, trusted, then she’ll be safe, happy and feel good about herself when she’s not a crazy kid anymore.

   I can not agree more Dan. Those parents are obviously doing a lot right in order for this kid to feel she could turn to them at that time Although she did text a friend to call them I guess she may have not been as sure as we may think?? But the fact she felt that she could make that call at all is a good sign Not to mention the fact that she likely decided once there that this was not a good thing and found a way to get out I Hope that this was the scare she needed to make it so she never attempts such a thing again.

   I know what you mean about teens and pre teens though they never think it will happen to them and always want to give it a try thinking they know best Which is why parents really need to have a open communication and good relationship with them Not friendship (though it is in a way) but a parental relationship where they are open and caring and still protective at the same time.

   now days this stuff don’t suprize me. kids are having sex at younger ages now and there are more addictions to porn, and other stuff now days. If people have addictions, and are addicted to things such as porn is jail and a bond of 6,600 really going to help?
