Charges possible but not likely in MySpace suicide

Prosecutor To Review MySpace Suicide:

The St. Charles, Missouri County Prosecutor, Jack Banas, is saying that there may be criminal charges for the MySpace suicide death of Megan Meier but he also says it’s unlikely.

The county prosecutor says he never saw the complete case file. He doesn’t want to give anyone false hope, but he says it’s not yet case closed.

“Me personally, I’ve never seen anything on this case,” says St. Charles County Prosecutor Jack Banas. He says from what he’s heard he knows hearts are broken, but he doesn’t believe laws were.

Banas never saw the report but wants to see all the evidence now, but based on what he’s heard he believes what happened was cruel, but not criminal.

I’m not holding my breath over this one but I pray to God that Prosecutor Banas can find something to charge the people responsible for Megan Meier’s death.

I think they need to bypass the county prosecutor and go to a Federal level. This is interstate commerce fraud on several levels.

This is the same law that is used to convict hackers of computer fraud, which is certainly what the parents did, especially by giving away the access to the MySpace account to other people. That is a huge no-no, and should be punishable under this law.

There should also be some stalking laws that come into play here too. http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/47/230.html

And here is Missouri’s cyber stalking law. http://www.moga.state.mo.us/statutes/C500-599/565

If this prosecutor doesn’t get off his ass, we should all raise a ruckus.

Why hasn’t a search warrant been issued for the perpetrator’s computer since they can’t find enough data on the Meier’s?

Forget the legal system. This should be dealt with by the community. These people should be ostracized….lose their jobs, their house, etc. Never have I heard a more disgusting and disturbing story, or seen a clearer example of a sociopath.

Looks like some of you are on a witch hunt. It turns out that Josh was an 18 year old girl and 2 13 year olds. The mother who has been targeted as the perpetrator had very little to do with it other than not supervising her employee, he daughter and her daughter’s friend. Also, just minutes previous to Megan’s suicide she was involved in an online fight not only with “josh” but with several other teens.

Sorry I don’t buy this whole cyber bullying crap. People say cruel things over the internet EVERY SINGLE DAY, and if her buttons were that easily pushed, she shouldn’t have been on the internet in the first place. Parents need to stop letting TV and internet babysit their kids and start paying more attention. Besides there and too many kids overseas dying to protect our freedom of speech. Are we really ready to start throwing people in jail for what they say to someone over the internet?
