Possible violence averted at St. John’s

Student Arrested For Carrying Gun On St. John’s Campus:

A possible Virginia Tech or more likely a possible University of Texas was averted today at St. John’s University in New York.

22-year-old Omesh Hiraman was apprehended by a public safety officer and a police cadet. Hiraman was in possession of a 50-caliber Wolf rifle and allegedly had a mask in possession as well.

Local news sources are reporting that Hiraman is of Guyanese descent and has a history of mental health problems.

There’s a shock. Another crazy person with a gun. Thank God for the police cadet…

The cadet, Christopher Benson, 21, says he followed Hiraman to a nearby building, where he later helped police restrain him. Benson says Hiraman looked suspicious from the start.

“I always think about what they tell always me, stay back observe, make as many observations as you can,” said Benson. “But by then he turned the corner, action needed to be taken, and I took it.”

“We are all indebted to one very observant and very brave police cadet,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

More on this as details are released.

You know, its nice to see that college campuses have taken the VA Tech massacre as an opportunity to formulate a response plan. Check out how this one went down, with kudos to the staff for a nice, fast reaction:

2:30 p.m. A man is spotted on campus toting a rifle.

2:33 p.m. A 911 call is made regarding the man.

2:46 p.m. Campus security sends out e-mail alerts and text messages to students that there is a campus lockdown in effect.

3:30 p.m. E-mail alerts and text messages are sent that the man is in custody but that the lockdown is still in effect.

5:30 p.m. E-mail alerts and text messages are sent that the lockdown has been lifted.

Oh, and by the way, this creep was on a student visa and says he’s crazy and wasn’t taking his meds. Time to deport his silly ass back to his hell-hole country of Guyana.

There is a 10% chance the guy was muslim and this was his jihad, but who knew that Guyana was 35% hindu?

I love the CIA World Factbook.

I like it when people are properly deported to prison systems that make ours look like paradise. It helps me feel a little bit better that at least some countries do it right in some ways.
