I’ve already mentioned that I think the idea is profit through fear mongering but am I the only one who thinks this video is distasteful?

That 97% bit is rediculous, and probably entirely innacurate. It’s not like the thing stops the force of the projectile, so the kid would just end up on their ass, and of course vulnerable, if they were to hold the backpack in front of them, amirite?
Whatever. I object mostly to the use of Neal Young, that Canuck hippie singing about the Kent State shootings.
Don’t want your kid to get shot at a public school? Well dumbass, try homeschooling. If you think the risk of death is so significant you need body armor, stay the hell home.
the commercial is tasteless, but the idea isn’t bad. At least this guy is coming up with something better than “stay home”. nothing personal Belch, but telling people to stay home instead of going to school because they are afraid of some jackass shooting their school up is just silly.
I don’t really think its silly- Its a matter of risk management. If you as a parent think that the imminent risk of a school shooting is bad enough that you invest in body armor, when you of course realize that a head shot will kill, then you must believe in your heart that you are sending your kid into a war zone.
If that’s the case, then homeschool to eliminate the risk.
I would say to give weapons to the teachers so they can eliminate school shooters, but since many of the teachers are turning out to be rapists themselves, I don’t think that would be such a swift idea.
But its not a matter of you think you are sending you kid into a war zone. Did the parents of the Columbine victims think that their kids were in a war zone ? how about Red lake ? What about Virginia Tech ? These things happened without warning, nobody expected a war zone in those places… but they got one anyway. precaution is not a bad thing.
In the meantime, how many parents can do home school ? If Jax and I had kids we wouldn’t be able to do it. We both HAVE to work and just wouldn’t have the time to do home schooling.
You are right, arming teachers isn’t an option, and like I said above… for most American families, home school isn’t an option. All that is left is precaution.
Precaution is hiring armed security guards and using magnetometers. It is also allowing adults to carry firearms if they are licensed to do so-
One thing Im pretty sure its *not* is a backpack insert that purports to be bulletproof. Why not sell a whole kevlar vest? I think its fear mongering at its worst.
I think we are going to have to agree to disagree.
These wouldn’t have done the kids at Columbine much good. Many of the students left their backpacks behind when they fled the cafeteria, and the majority of the killing was done at point blank range in the library.
