Parents of murdered Randolph teen sue:

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about the murder of Jennifer Parks so I’ll do a brief recap for those of you who are new.

Jennifer Parks was a 16-year-old girl from Randolph, New Jersey. She was killed by her neighbor Jonathan Zarate. Zarate dismembered her body and stuffed her into a steamer trunk. He then hid her body in his parents’ Jeep for 24 hours while he attended a child’s birthday party. Zarate, his brother James, and a third teen were caught trying to dump Jennifer’s body into the Passaic River.

That was 2 years ago. In true New Jersey fashion, the trial has yet to commence.

Now the parents of Jennifer Parks are suing the parents of Jonathan Zarate for negligence.

An attorney for David and Laurie Parks filed the lawsuit in Superior Court in Morristown, claiming Jonathan and James Zarate were negligent in not stopping the other from committing the brutal murder in their father’s home.

The lawsuit claims the boys’ parents, John Zarate and Flora Mari, failed to adequately supervise them, knowing they both had bullied 16-year-old Jennifer prior to the July 30, 2005 murder.

Like I always say in these kinds of lawsuits whatever the Parks get it won’t even be close to what they’ve lost with the death of their daughter.

    its not Jersey that takes its sweet ass time to start a trial… its our whole judicial system. The “quick and speedy” trial gimmick has gone the wayside because lawyers draw out the trial to enhance their bank accounts. They DO use that time to find ways to win the trial (if and when if occurs) but they show up to court for you up to 12 times a year and work several hours per month on your case for a few hundred dollars an hour… the longer the case, the bigger the bucks.

    I was a psychiatric social worker for five years, and criminal does NOT EQUAL crazy. This is a slur on the insane, to think that such evil is the same thing as “crazy”

    now they say that the trial will start as early as next spring. i have heard that before as they say talk is cheap we will see how far it gets us

    Even though I live on the other side of the country, I’ve been following this one because Jen was a friend of my friend’s kids. I thought the justice system sucked here in California, but for them to pull the crap they’re doing in NJ is ridiculous. It’s been proven that the Zarate brothers did this, and the Parks family still has to live with this version of hell until after the trial and sentencing are done with. Life will never be the same for them, but dammit, why can’t this be over for them so they don’t have to continually feel their loss so publicly?

    Because our country sucks ass. it is mainly because of those awful liberal scumbags who still believe that a proven criminal should actually be entitled rights.
