Is Stickam run by porn company?

Ex-worker says teen website has ties to big porn enterprise:

Have you heard the latest? It seems that the unmonitored cam to cam site Stickam is run by a huge porn operation. Or so says an ex-Stickam executive.

On its website and in press reports, Stickam says it is owned by Advanced Video Communications, or AVC, a three-year-old Los Angeles company that sells video conferencing and e-commerce services to businesses in Japan and other Asian countries.

But according to Alex Becker, a former vice president at Stickam, and internal company documents, Advanced Video Communications is managed and owned by Wataru Takahashi, a Japanese businessman who also owns and operates DTI Services, a vast network of websites that offer live sex shows over Web cameras. Becker alleges that Stickam shares office space, employees, and computer systems with the pornographic websites.

Becker recently left Stickam after four months there and said he was speaking out because the company was not doing enough to protect young users of its service. Becker criticized what he said was the practice of sharing employees among Stickam and the pornographic sites. The workers at Takahashi’s firms “only know how to conduct an adult website,” he said. “They don’t get it that there are predators on the Internet.”

Does this mean that Stickam is trying to expose the impressionable minds of youths to pornography? Hardly. However it does, in my opinion, undermine the claims that Stickam is serious about protecting its teenage users.

Ive always been suspicious of the motives behind some networking sites. Mostly from a political side (myspace saves the gov alot of spying time) but these newer webcam sites and stuff seems like a pervert’s paradise. How well are their staff screened I wonder. A pretty much endless supply of young adults on webcams, almost guarantees that someone will abuse their acess capabilities.

Id also worry about the ability to capture streams of young naive teens who do stupid things on their webcam, in which could be saved for personal use or sell them off to some of the underground internet sites, etc.

I’m a Stickam member, I frequent the site all the time. The rooms are moderated by other members, who either own the room or vote others in to mod the room. The rooms are not moderated by Stickam admins. While pornography does happen, in 99.9% of the rooms it is an immediatly banable offense. Check it out for yourselves.

I have reported a few people on Stickam, and found that they completely ignore reports of abuse. One 25 year old male exposed himself and played with his penis on cam in a 14 year old boys room, and still has an active account on Stickam. He also tried to convince the 14 year old to get naked too.

it is run by pedophiles. i have been on this site many times. the “private” feature is a plus for the pedophiles i have reported many times the pedophiles on this site. they are still on there. i have been in many younger boys rooms with 20-30-40 year old men asking for them to get naked or to go private for cam to cam masturbation. i report them to stickam, they are still there….. yes this website is run by pedophiles, period………

Okay, Here’s the deal…Me and my friends from AIM Chatrooms go in these stickam chats all the time…at a time we can have up to 16 people in the room…Of course only a few on cam but who cares…Most of the time We’re all just talking away…It’s loads of fun to see who you’re talking to…But not once have I ever encountered any of what you guys are talking about…I think you guys are just honestly making stuff up or are reciting what you’ve herd from a friend or something. I Moderate AIM chatrooms under the Alias MiYsT1C

So yeah…I Prevent Pedophile abuse myself…But I never even in there see half the shit you guys speak of.

Look I’ve been apart of stickam for over a year and a half and yeah you get idiots that roam around, but trollin’ for kiddies? That really doesn’t happen like you say. What does happen is you got tons of people and a few idiots that are on there… each room handles them their own way, and the ones that do start yanking their chain on cam aren’t these 40 y.o. pedos it’s theses kids and they are almost all under 25 all guys and it’s almost like a game to them, like streaking was back in the day.

From what I get they all get off on just having people watch… or doing like flashers do and doing hit and runs. Not saying it’s right but 98% of the kids that have ever surfed the net and are over 13 have seen a sexual organ and don’t fool yourself by trying to use blocking software because that’s more for your piece of mind then to protect your kids. Filtering software has been proven very unsuccessful so save yourself some money talk to your kids and watch what they do online. You know… be a parent. Have a relationship with you kids, understand they have the same kinds of things roaming in their head that you did when you were their age and treat them like people

Yeah if kids come on the site they might see a pecker… OMG! Anywho in the groups, people really don’t want to see that crap and with all the mods that are around someone will kick in seconds.

And… If you are really worried about this and you feel you must do something, unplug the thing when you’re not around. Have the pc in a common room. Unplug the webcam and only bring it out if there’s a reason for it. This works really well if you have a USB web cam and not a built in one on a lappy. Oh and why would you let a kid have a pc in their own room anyhow? For home work? Why can’t they do that in the living room? Shoot, they may even ask you for some help about some things and upon research you might learn something also and have a family moment.

But this is what you have to remember and why it’s important to be a parent and talk with you kids and not at them is because they will have friends. They will hang out with them, they will do stupid junk once in a while and there’s not a thing you can do to stop it sans making them a prisoner. And where’s the fun in that?

So the lesson is… don’t be afraid of the internet, but understand that it is it’s own universe with it’s own rules for behaviors and it’s also a powerful tool for knowledge also.
