We get letters

I received the following e-mail from someone only calling themselves Bert…

RE: I think you should stop your site

Really, in any community of 100 millioin people there will always be a spread of bad people. Your one of them. By focussing on bad stuff your feeding the appepite of wannabe bad people. We dont need you doing what you do. We already have the news. Do you think that tech-incompetent parents are going to read your site? No. The only people reading your site are the bad guys, and their jerking off to it. Your fascination with this material is clinically questionable. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were peaodo yourself.

Methinks Bert doth protest too much.

I’m not going to bother defending myself because my stance on predators has been established. However, I will not have you sully the good name of my readers.

Are you going to take that, readers? He called you all the bad guys and that you’re jerking off to my site. Please let Bert know what you think in the comments.

As an investigator assigned to an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in my state I appreciate what this site does. Social Networking sites are the fastest growing teen web-presence and sites like this one remind us all, and the ISP’s, that there are bad people out there targeting our children. You can’t just close your eyes, stick your head in the ethernet sand and hope they’ll leave you or your children alone. Publishing what these creeps do and how they are doing it just might get the attention of the these sites and maybe they’ll actually implement better measures to insure these creeps can’t get to our kids so easily.

Keep this site up, I enjoy reading stories about these guys getting what they deserve.

I am a teacher I use this site as an excellent tool to inform students about the horrible reality of the world they play in.
Would you drink water with a drop of arsenic in it?
    Same thing goes with myspace.
I myself do not believe parents can keep kids safe on myspace.
Oh they can help but its ultimately up to kids themselves to make
the decision. Sites like this point out the reality and help make a more informed decision.
Please do not let your own opinions affect free speech.

Hey Bert, sounds like you are afraid of getting your name smeared in case you get caught…or am I wrong? I cannot stomach the thought of someone protesting a site like this. Sites like this are not only on the right side of the law and informative, they are 100% morally justifiable. How can you accuse someone that devotes their free time to giving pedos the “smack down” while doing their best to keep kids safe of being a pedo. Your motives, Bert, are questionable at best and COMPLETELY out of line. How DARE you!?!?!?!?

You guys are making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I got the following in an e-mail from Nancy. Thank you Nancy.

I guess I’m one of those tech incompetent parents! I am an advisor for an international youth organization, and I check several times daily on the kids, including my own chidren and family (relatives). I do not contact the kids personally, but I do get back with other parents so we can be aware of what is going on, and what we need to be careful about. I enjoy your site, because I have become so much more aware of “life” where I had been quite naive before. Just want to say thanks!

What a dork. Yes we do have the news but half the time they lie. So I like to come here because they don’t always tell you everything. I say good job and keep the site going. So when Bert gets caught you can plaster his pic all over. Bert you are a dumb ass.

Bert, why would you protest a site that tells the truth, unlike the media (most times)? I find it calming to keep up with what is going on online, in order to keep my friends and family safe… wouldn’t you want the same?

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this site helps as many people as you think, Trench. Any parent reading this site most likely already has the savvy and awareness to keep their kids out of trouble. The percentage of the negligent ones who let their teenage girls pose in thongs on myspace and HAPPEN to stumble across this blog is probably on the small side.

Let’s be honest here. Most of the “kids” ending up with “pedos” are victims of their own stupidity and parental negligence first and foremost. I’m not talking about the 8 year old girl plucked from her neighborhood playground, or the 10 year old boy fondled by his priest. REAL child sex abuse is a horrible, violent act that can psychologically damage the victim for the rest of his/her life. I’m talking about 13-18 year old girls that seek to avoid age of consent laws by lying to their partners and posting age-inappropriate photos on the net. They’re TRYING to get laid!!! Parents of kids like this are not searching the web for internet safety tips or real-life stories about child internet safety. I wish I could tell you what they WERE doing, because we all know what they’re NOT teaching their kids about sex, its effects, and particularly the dangers of seeking it anonymously online.

Many of the cases presented on this site are here because kids are meeting for anonymous sex on myspace. Sometimes it happens with a guy who is too old, and sometimes, they get caught. The older guys who are featured on this site (I’m referring to the 18-20 year olds arrested for consentual acts…particularly the ones who were lied to about the girl’s age) are not the problem. They are a symptom of a much worse subculture of anonymous internet sexual relationships happening more frequenly between teenagers. They’re the tip of the iceberg. Thats it.

So, this site can proclaim “kill all the pedos!” all it wants, but as long as there are permiscuous, sexually mature, emotionally immature 13-17 year old girls on the internet LOOKING for sex, then there will always be horny 17, 18, and 19 year old boys that will be willing to oblige them. Until we start addressing the subculture of anonymous/internet youth sexual encounters, we’ll continue to see the bi-products of that underworld.

That said, if ONE parent is made aware of their son or daughter’s participation in this shady world, then the site has served its purpose. So Trench, I do applaud your intentions. I simply wish you would take a more nuanced view of the issues.

However, Trench, everyone that disagrees with you isn’t a pedophile, and it’s unfair to throw nasty titles at people just because they don’t agree with you.

  8. marleigh Avatar

bert has too much time on his hands. wake up, practically the whole world is fascinated by these kinds of things, because we can’t imagine being capable of commiting such acts as those written about on this site…SO MANY PEOPLE read this site, and for different reasons.

Can I also say it was equally wrong for him to call you a pedo.

I think you’re a good person Trench, and know you have the best intentions with this site.

    Tech incompetent parent here!!

Bert – I don’t know what to make of you. Something has to be a bit off kilter to think the way you do.

David – my girls are 4 and 6. They WILL NOT be unsupervised on the internet as teens thanks to informative sites such as this. Many parents like to hide their heads from the truth – I feel it is important to keep plugged-in to be able stay ahead of the game. The idea is to be better equipped than the monsters.

Thank You Trench – for providing an inside view to make my job as a parent a bit easier.

    Good luck Pixie,

It’s an up-hill battle. My parents were very involved when I was a youth, and they still don’t know have the stupid things I did as a kid.

That is probably one of a few reasons I haven’t had kids yet. That ammount of responsibility scares the crap out of me. You seem like you’ve got your head in the game though. I applaud anyone with the guts to take on such a difficult, thankless job. I wish you all the best.

Ok………….. First of all I DON’T have the right “equiptment” to jerk off. LOL Second of all I think Dear Mr. Bert is one of the Pedo’s that you have brought a light upon. Ecuse me while I hope off my soap Box. Trench keep up the good work. I’ve been posting here for quite some time now. I had one of these “cases” right in my back yard. So yes I love this site. I found this site because of what happened here it was linked on my local news website. Bert you can kiss every ass that belongs to the devoted readers of Trench’s site

    Trench,

I check your site every day. I am a mother of a teen girl and work in the software industry. While I would never consider myself “techno-incompetent” or whatever goofball thing Bert called me (I’m not even going there with “jerking off perv” description) and your other dedicated readers, I will say that I had NO IDEA that MYSPACE was little more than a molester’s playground until I found your web site. Thank you for enlightening parents like me. I’m with Ashley on this one… Bert “aka ASSCLOWN” was featured on your site previously and is really pissed off that you outted his perviness. GO TRENCH!!

Unfortunately it’s difficult for me to take anyone seriously who doesn’t know the difference between “they’re” and “their” as well as “your” and “you’re”…kind of hard to take you seriously. So Bert, when you can write a semi-educated sentence maybe then I’ll look deeper into its meaning.

Respectfully, I think that before “Bert” criticizes others, he needs to learn some basic spelling and grammar technique…or at least learn how to click “spell check” before he sends another email.

Our sergeant tells us that us police officers are $24 an hour report writers. It is stressed to us that we need to literally “cross all of our t’s and dot all of our i’s”. Perhaps this Bert fellow needs to sit down for one hour with our sergeant…that way the next time Bert decides to send MyCrimeSpace an e-mail, his spelling won’t make him look like “Dufus McDoogle” or something!

I am willing to bet that “Bert” has either been profiled on this sight, or has had a “friend” who was. Why else would he have a problem with this site. I think this site is very informative, and can be used as a tool to inform kids that there are dangerous people out there looking to come in cotact with younger people. As far as masterbating goes, I think Bert probaly does a little to much of that himself, he’s not thinking clearly. Who in their right mind would take offence to a site that publishes the pictures of pedophiles unless they were one themselves.

  21. David Avatar
    David

As someone who’s not a pedophile, I do have some problems with the site. I wouldn’t say that I’m “against” it though. I have a problem with posting pictures of people and calling them pedophiles when they have not been convicted of a crime.

I take no issue with responsible journalism (using the word “alleged” wouldn’t kill us I think). I do take issue with the occasional sensationalism and fear mongering that does take place from time to time on this site. Furthermore, I take serious issue with threats of violence against the accused sometimes seen in these forums. That is not at all constructive and undermines the credibility of the site as a whole.

All that said, I think Trench is a good human being, and is honestly trying to help his community. Complete agreement is not neccessary for a respectful discussion of issues, but common decency is. “Bert” obviously lacks the former.

    Trench,
I, for one, enjoy this site (as well as your other sites) and commend your dedication and focus in trying to shed some light upon the creepy dark corners where slimeballs and human oddities with warped thinking like to lurk. Keeps me on my toes knowing that the world is just chock full of people who are always finding ways to shirk personal responsibility and what was once commonly known as “living by the golden rule”. Keep up the good work…and just remember that for every pain in the ass that comes on here making noise about how terrible you are, there are probably 20 others in the silent majority thinking the opposite and wondering how the fuck you put up with listening to their stupidity day after day.
    Thanks dude!

There are a lot of websites of questionable value, but this is not one of them.

You can see a lot of these stories on the news, but not all of it. A lot of this stuff doesn’t make national headlines because there’s just so mkuch of it now that it’s overwhelming.

But, giving us the news articles on the crimes featured here is not why this site is important. This site is important, even necessary, because of the social statement that it makes. By collecting all of these stories here in one place, we can see some of the disturbing trends that are forming in our society.

I graduated from High School 14 years ago. To some that may not seem to be a long time, but to me it seems like a lifetime because of how much has changed since then. When I was growing up, my biggest concern was who to ask to the dance, or what rock band t-shirt to wear to school the next day. I never worried about a fellow student coming to school with a shotgun and shooting up the cafeteria.

I was never afraid going to school, and I think that I would be today. 14 years ago, I never heard of one kid getting beaten senseless by 15 others, and having it all on videotape. Sure, we had our scuffles in the bushes after the last bell rang, but they only lasted a minute or so before a teacher or upperclassman would break it up.

Maybe this was happening in other places I do come from a small Western NY town, but I never heard of it. I always felt safe growing up. Maybe it’s the way my parents raised me. Maybe it’s the way the other parents of out small community raised their children. I don’t know, but I never expereinced anything this bad growing up.

To me it just seems like things are getting worse when it comes to children and teenagers. Even my mother, who teaches 4th grade in the same town where I grew up says the kids in her classes have gotten worse and worse over the years. I think it’s due to the lack of good parenting.

I’ve gone on for long enough here. The point I was trying to make was of the value of websites and blogs like this. They’re not here to glorify paedophiles or crimnals. They’re not here for people to get “turned on” by – if someone’s getting sexually aroused by reading a site like this I would not hesitate to say that it’s really not Mr. Trench’s or this site’s fault. That person is the one who has the problem.

This site is for everyone to come together as a global community to address the major problems we have in society, and maybe by having and sharing this information we can do something to make it better.
