  • Texas nets 14 MySpace SOs

Dallas-Fort Worth area sex offenders using MySpace arrested:

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is bragging that 14 Texas sex offenders were caught violating parole by using MySpace. He says that part rather proudly.

Mr. Abbott called Web sites like MySpace a “lions’ den” for sexual predators who use them “literally looking for the person they can next victimize.”

I bet he said the next part really really quiet.

Mr. Abbott said, however, that “there was no evidence” that the 14 people arrested last month had used MySpace to locate potential victims. Instead, all 14 were arrested after using the Internet, a violation of their parole.

While I’m happy that 14 sex offenders are off the streets Mr. Abbot falls into the same category as his contemporaries from Connecticut, North Carolina, and New York. Instead of demonizing sites like MySpace how about doing something about the parents that allow their kids unfettered access to the internet. Oh, that’s right, because they’re the ones who vote. You wouldn’t want to piss them off, would you?

  • Texas predator sentenced

College Station sex predator who used Myspace to target young teen sentenced to seven-year prison term:

Back in July of 2006 27-year-old Guadalupe “Wally” DeLaGarza used MySpace to sexually solicit a 14-year-old girl. When he arrived to meet her he was in possession of a handgun, rope restraints, condoms, and a digital camera. Luckily the 14-year-old girl was the Cyber Crimes Unit and DeLaGarza was promptly arrested. Now he’s been sentenced to 7 years behind bars.

DeLaGarza pleaded guilty to attempted sexual performance by a child, a third-degree felony. Upon release, he will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

It seems a little light for someone who showed up with a gun and restraints.

  • 7 Texas sex offenders found on MySpace

7 sex offenders who use MySpace arrested:

With the information provided to the Texas Attorney General by MySpace, seven Texas sex offenders were arrested for being on MySpace.

In Houston, officials arrested Patrick Joseph Blevins, 49; Reginald Lee Collins, 27; Ronald Daven Metoyer, 41; and Robert Shepard Walter, 23. Walter was also charged last month with failing to register as a sex offender.

Scott Peter Hansen, 44, was arrested in Glenn Heights, a Dallas suburb. Information on his incarceration or attorney were not immediately available late Thursday.

Jason Labronte Carr, 31, was taken into custody in Austin. A Travis County jail official said Thursday night she did not have access to information on Carr’s attorney of record.

Jeremy Bryan Polak, 28, a parole violator accused of failing to register as a sex offender, was arrested in Round Rock, an Austin suburb. A Williamson County jail official said his records did not include Polak’s attorney of record.

The really creepy thing is when I was looking for their MySpaces I found a bunch with the same names that had varying ages. One had several different profiles that were attributed to his name and location that had different teenage ages.

Thanks to Shyloh for the tip.

  • 23-year-old uses VF to sexually assault 16-year-old

Police: Vampire freaks site leads to sex assault:

You know I’ve been hard on MySpace, craigslist, Xanga, and LiveJournal, but I’ve been neglecting one social networking site that I shouldn’t and that’s VampireFreaks. Now before the goths start proclaiming that I’m persecuting them, I’m not. It just so happens that VF has had some pretty hardcore criminals in its userbase, most notably Kimveer Gill.

Having said that, enter one 23-year-old Dan Miladinovic. He’s accused of using VF to arrange a meeting with a 16-year-old girl from Sugar Land, TX and sexually assaulting her.

“They got in his car and drove around a little bit. At some point in time, she started feeling uncomfortable about the situation and wanted to go home,” said Sgt. Hines.

But police say Miladinovic pulled in to a doctor’s office parking lot in the 3500 block of Town Center and sexually assaulted the teenage girl in his Mustang.

It’s unknown if the victim was aware of his actual age or not.

I was unable to find Miladinovic’s VF profile.

  • SO sentenced to 5 years for being on MySpace

Sex Offender Sentenced for Using MySpace:

26-year-old Patrick Wong of Lubbock, Texas is a registered sex offender who was sentenced to 5 years behind bars for violating his parole by being on MySpace. Wong was originally arrested in 2001 for exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl in the Wal*Mart toy department. And in 2002 was placed on probation for failing to register as a sex offender.

  • Valentine Lopez

    Valentine Lopez

17-year-old sex assault suspect goes before judge:

A registered sex offender who had been attending classes at Pasadena High School went before a judge Friday.

He was there to hear the newest charge against him.

Valentine Lopez, 17, is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl he met on Myspace.com.

The school district said it was already aware of his conviction three years ago for a sex crime against another child.

But, officials added, there was nothing it could do at the time to separate Lopez from the other students.

    More details from another article

Lopez was taken into custody Wednesday, according to police.

According to the DPS Website, Lopez is a registered sex offender, convicted in 2003 for a sexual assault case that involved a three-year-old victim.

Pasadena ISD Superintendent Kirk Lewis explained that though the district was aware of Lopez’ past record, there was nothing they could do aside from providing the teen with an education.

“The district will do everything it can always to protect its’ students,” he said. “In this particular instance, there were legal restrictions that prevented us from doing anything more than what we had already done. My understanding is that they’re currently working through the process for suspension, and completing the paperwork to have him moved to an alternative placement (facility).”

According to Lewis, any student that lives within any school district must be provided an education by that school district. People were not notified of Lopez’ past convictions, said the superintendent, because the teen was protected by juvenile and privacy laws.

It’s nice to know that a sex offender’s right to privacy outweighs the safety of the other kids attending that school.

Thanks to Melissa for the tip. And thanks to Mr. A, we have Lopez’s MySpace. It says he’s in a relationship. I wonder if his SO knew about his record.

  • San Antonio victim met attacker on craigslist

San Antonio victim met attacker on craigslist

Assault Victim Met Attacker Through CraigsList:

This is the most disturbing craigslist story I’ve posted so far…

In an arrest warrant obtained by KXAN NBC Austin, a 23-year-old man told police that he was raped after answering an ad on CraigsList — the popular Internet community.

The victim says he answered an ad offering “partying and hanging out with other men and women.”

He says after talking through e-mail and by phone with a man identified as Ernest Lamey, the pair made arrangements to meet in person.

The most disturbing part is police say he could have more victims.

Details found in the warrant show that Lamey gave the victim some sort of alcoholic beverage. Police believe it was laced with sleeping pills.

After falling asleep, the victim woke up to Lamey sexually assaulting him and called 911. A search on Lamey’s home uncovered the sleeping pill Ambien, a pill crusher and powder in a kitchen cabinet.

If you think you may be a victim, contact Austin police.

Is anyone else having flashbacks of Pulp Fiction and ‘The Gimp’?

Anyway, if you’re looking for friends, with benefits or otherwise, you may want to look somewhere else besides craigslist.

Glover Murder Suspect Coming Back To Face Charges In Sugar Land Case:

The co-conspirator in Ashton Glover’s murder, Sean Huston Brown, has waived extradition back to Texas. For those just joining us, 16-year-old Ashton Glover was killed by her friends Matt McCombs and Sean Brown. McCombs was the triggerman. They killed her for “morbid curiosity”. They tried fleeing to Canada, but they were captured in Michigan before they could reach the border. McCombs admits to being the triggerman and waived extradition immediately. Brown fought extradition at first.

  • Rusty Yates doesn’t know when to shut up

Rusty Yates doesn’t know when to shut up

    Yates’ ex-husband criticizes prosecutors:

Can you believe the nerve of this jackhole?…

Rusty Yates lashed out Thursday at prosecutors who spent five years pursuing murder charges against his ex-wife, saying they misrepresented certain details of the day Andrea Yates drowned their five children.

Rusty Yates told The Associated Press that Andrea Yates never told him, “I finally did it” in her telephone call to him after the drownings, as a Houston police officer testified during her second trial.

“It’s been printed in papers as fact, and it’s absolutely not true,” he said. “Much of the state’s case was built on lies.”

“In the first trial, they said Andrea did this to try to get out, whatever that means, which sounded like she wasn’t happy at home … and this time they said she wanted to run off with me into the sunset,” he said. “Well, which is it?

“The fact is, they spent five years and still don’t have a reason why she did it because they are unwilling to look at the fact she was psychotic. That’s the only reasonable explanation for her behavior.”

Yates, an engineer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, said he plans to visit his ex-wife regularly, but his role in her life will diminish as he moves on with his own. He remarried in March and has now has two stepsons.

“I don’t forget my children, and I don’t forget Andrea, but I don’t dwell on it either. I try to remember my children fondly,” he said. “I’m building new life … and have a new family and am more focused on them.”

As far as I’m concerned, this assclown is just as much at fault as his ex-wife. If he didn’t push his wife into being a baby making machine after having been hospitalized with postpartum depression, then we wouldn’t even know who Andrea Yates is.

  • Andrea Yates “Not Guilty”

    Andrea Yates “Not Guilty”

Yates not guilty by reason of insanity:

From the “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me” Department…

HOUSTON, Texas (AP) — Andrea Yates was found not guilty by reason of insanity Wednesday in her second murder trial for the bathtub drownings of her young children.

Yates, 42, will now be committed to a state mental hospital, with periodic hearings before a judge to determine whether she should be released. An earlier jury had found her guilty of murder, but the verdict was overturned on appeal.

The defense never disputed that Yates drowned her five children one by one in the bathtub of their Houston-area home. But they said she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis and, in a delusional state, believed Satan was inside her and was trying to save them from hell.

The state’s key witness was Dr. Michael Welner, a forensic psychiatrist who interviewed Yates for two days in May. He testified that Yates killed the youngsters because she felt overwhelmed and inadequate as a mother, not for altruistic reasons.

Welner said that although Yates may have been psychotic on the day of the murders, it wasn’t until the next day in jail that she talked about Satan, wanting to be executed and saving her kids from hell. He said the hallucination may have been triggered by the stresses of being naked in a cell on suicide watch and realizing what she had done.

Welner said Yates knew her actions were wrong and showed it in multiple ways: waiting until her husband left for work to kill them, covering the bodies with a sheet and calling 911 soon after the crime.

‘They’ should bring back Homes for the Criminally Batshit Crazy and throw her in it. And her dumbass fucking ex-husband Rusty too for making her have more kids after having such problems with postpartum depression.
