    Prosecutors doubt they’ll need witness in stabbing trial:

    Just some news in the case of Eric Schorling. To refresh your memories, Eric Schorling bragged to people that he was going to stab his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Lambert. He then stabbed Nicole in the back in the halls of Romeo High School barely missing her heart. He then bragged to people afterward that he stabbed Nicole. He had made a plea to serve six months but then nullified that plea by escaping from Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center and telling people that he was going to finish the job he started. So not only is he a psychopath he’s also a dumbass.

    Anyway, the article states that they could use fellow escapee Ronnie Lewis Gabrail’s testimony but probably won’t…

    “If you’ve got a quarterback that can throw long and connect on the very first play, why would you take 15 plays on handoffs and short runs and risk making mistakes on the field to gain the same yards?” Kaplan explained by way of analogy. “The case was very strong already, without Ronnie Gabrail, and using him might add risk.”

    And here’s the testimony he could provide…

    Prior to and during the brief escape, Gabrail has said Schorling told him he’d get back to Romeo and “finish off the bitch” or “finish what I started” — a sort of indirect admission that he had stabbed Lambert before. But Kaplan said the evidence value of that statement is minimal for the stabbing trial since Schorling also made incriminating statements to other Romeo High School students.

    And some people actually think he needs “help” and not jail. The only help he needs is help getting into the prison van for a long long stay courtesy of the State of Michigan.

    Teen Faces Charge in Mom’s Stabbing: (last story)

    Just some other news about Esmie Tseng. Probably nothing new to those that are closer to the case but new to me…

    Investigators said the teen’s 55-year-old mother, Shu Yi Zhang, was fatally stabbed after a lengthy argument between the mother and daughter.

    Zhang called her husband after the attack and asked him to come home, but she was dead by the time emergency workers arrived, officials said.

    And…

    Prosecutors said Tseng’s alleged violent behavior is out of character for her, but classmates said Tseng, a high school junior, had been using drugs and was sent her home early for some strange behavior.

    I did know that she was allegedly sent home but this is the first I’ve heard about any alleged drug use.

    I also found another support forum for Esmie Tseng at Kids in Court. Now while I’m personally reserving judgment on the situation because not enough information has been released the people at KIC annoy me to no end because they believe that no minor should be tried as an adult. I’m sorry but if you can’t do adult time you shouldn’t do adult crime. 16 years old is old enough to know that killing people is wrong and against the law.

    Slain Randolph girl’s mom pushes for death penalty:

    The mother of Jennifer Parks, Laurie Parks, is calling on prosecutors to push for the death penalty in the murder of her daughter…

    “I feel if you take a life, you give a life,” she said. She said her grief has been overwhelming some days, for herself and Jennifer’s father, David, and that she hopes to start counseling soon. She hasn’t been ready so far for therapy, she said.

    “I’m not doing good right now. It’s very hard,” she said.

    Can you blame her? Considering her daughter was killed and dismembered by Jonathan Zarate.

    Prosecutors have not yet stated whether or not they will pursue the death penalty. While New Jersey does have the death penalty it’s rarely used.

    Slay case leaves kin wondering:

    The relatives of Jonathan Zarate are saying they knew that he had problems. As a matter of fact, he was supposed to have been sent to his aunt in California who is a psychiatrist. He was supposed to go on August 2nd but he killed Jennifer Parks on July 30th. Still, no motive was given but the article uses this as a turning point in Zarate’s life…

    He changed from a happy youngster to an angry kid during the breakup of his parents, according to his mother, Flora Mari, who spoke through Fusco. The couple split when he was 8 and divorced when he was 11, according to court records.

    Even years later, Zarate spoke about the divorce all the time, according to Moises Mari, a stepbrother who lives in Newport News, Va.

    So he was down about his parents’ divorce. Boo-freakin’ hoo. I don’t care if his parents beat him with barbed wire it’s still no excuse to choke, bludgeon, stab, and dismember a 16-year-old girl. If this is what the defense will be basing their insanity defense on then they have their work cut out for them. Then again this is New Jersey. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

    Web site urges that teenager be tried as juvenile in slaying: (log in info)

    According to the article friends and supporters of Esmie Tseng, the Kansas teen accused of stabbing her mother to death, have set up a website in support of her at Esmie.com. According to the site, their goal is to keep the case in the juvenile courts while prosecutors want to try her as an adult. Or as they put it in their words…

    If Esmie is convicted in the juvenile court system she can get the care and help she needs and 7 years from now could move on with a normal life. If her case is moved to the adult system, the likely penalty for this 16-year-old child will be life in prison. Read Esmie’s bio, and what those who know Esmie have to say, and you will understand that sending this kid to jail for life would constitute not one but two terrible tragedies resulting from that August 19th afternoon.

    Personally, I think they’re jumping the gun here a little bit. By their own admission details about what happened that day are almost nonexistent. Saying that she needs help and care and letting her move on with her life is a bit premature. If it turns out that this was nothing more than a cold-blooded killing then she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    Friends pack courtroom for teenager accused of killing mother: (log in info)

    Esmie Tseng, the 16-year-old girl who is accused of stabbing her mother to death appeared in court today. I’m amazed and confused at the amount of support she is receiving. Is there something more to this story that the media isn’t reporting? I’d like to hear from someone who is closer to this than I am. Your anonymity is guaranteed.

    Anyway, Ms. Tseng stated that she was not getting along with her court-appointed attorney, Robb Edmonds, and may want a new lawyer. Her father disagreed…

    Her father, Tao Tseng, who sat directly behind her during the hearing, told the judge that he communicated very well with Edmonds.

    I trust him, Tao Tseng said.

    He said he also was concerned about advice his daughter may be getting from others. He did not elaborate and did not speak to reporters when he left the courthouse.

    The judge advised her to rethink her position on her lawyer because she doesn’t know anyone better she could assign.

    Getting back to what her father said I wonder what advice his daughter could be getting and from who. I have an idea but it’s pure speculation on my part. Teenagers think they know everything. I should know. I was like that when I was a teen too. She could be getting advice from friends that fancy themselves better lawyers than those who actually went to law school. I’ve seen this happen in court before where teenagers thought they knew more about the law than the judge. That didn’t help them any.

    The father is an enigma to me. I’m getting two impressions from him. Either he’s got a really good head on his shoulders and wants to do what’s right for his daughter or that he could be a controlling type.

    Esmie’s attorney gave notice that he may be filing a mental health defense which is almost becoming standard in teen trials.

    The next court appearance for Esmie is scheduled for Oct 12th.

  • Jennifer Parks Remembered

    Randolph students to honor slain classmate:

    Classmates of Jennifer Parks from Randolph High School in New Jersey are honoring her by creating two scholarships in her name. If you haven’t been following 16-year-old Jennifer Parks was “allegedly” bludgeoned, stabbed and dismembered by her next-door neighbor Jonathan Zarate.

    Students hope to raise enough money to provide two $500 scholarships in Ms. Parks’ name, but the idea of buying books for the school library would be a special tribute to their classmate.

    I’ve been keeping in contact with Jen’s mom. She really liked the idea of buying new books because Jen liked to read a lot. We would put her name in the front of each book as a memorial.

    Does this sound like someone who some people think deserved what she got?

    If you’re in or near the Randolph, NJ area why not throw a couple of bucks their way.

    This is an article about site “favorite” Esmie Tseng. I say “favorite” because a lot of people come to this site looking for information about her.

    For those of you who are late to the party, Esmie Tseng is a 16-year-old girl accused of stabbing her mother to death. AT the time of her arrest there was no obvious motive and there still isn’t but the article tries to portray the fact that Esmie’s mother was very hard on her pressuring her to get perfect grades and being very strict on her socializing. Overbearing parents can be the biggest of asshats but that’s still no reason to stab them.

    DNA taken from teens in girl’s death:

    This is an update in the case of Jonathan Zarate. He’s the scumbag who allegedly bludgeoned, stabbed, killed, and dismembered 16-year-old Jennifer Parks. The last time we heard his lawyer was planning an insanity defense. At that time a few people left comments stating that Zarate’s younger brother did it and that Zarate was covering for him. Well, Zarate’s brother, only identified as “J.Z.”, and the other teenage accomplice, identified as “V.B.”, have claimed that they had nothing to do with the killing. Meanwhile, Morris County investigators have obtained DNA samples from the two. If their DNA is found on Jennifer Parks’ body then the charges could be upgraded. Right now they’re only charged with illegally disposing of human remains.

    I originally told you about Esmie Tseng here. She was the 16-year-old girl from Kansas who allegedly stabbed her mother, Shu Yi Zhang, to death.

    At that time, I asked if anybody knew what her website was. I got an e-mail giving me a link to her Livejournal which according to the e-mail was shut down by a friend of hers who knew the password.

    I did a little more digging and I found a Google cached version of her Xanga site. Nothing of any great note. Nothing that would lead you to believe the crime she’s been accused of committing.

    Reason to Blow Up the World: The article isn’t too forthcoming with motive details, but since prosecutors intend to try her as an adult, we can possibly rule out self-defense.

    Anyway, for the fact that this 16-year-old girl, Esmie Tseng, would stab her own mother, Shu Yi Zhang, repeatedly. If tried as an adult, she could be sentenced to life. The article says that she had a website (probably myspace or something like that).
