    NIU gunman’s identity confirmed

Elk Grove man identified as gunman in NIU killings:

The identity of the NIU gunman has been confirmed that he was, in fact, Steven P. Kazmierczak.

Some people are saying that it’s ironic that Kazmierczak would commit such a horrific travesty, considering he was active in the fields of criminal justice and sociology.

He co-authored a published study on prison policy, entitled “Self-injury in Correctional Settings: ‘Pathology’ of Prisoners or of Prisons?”

According to that paper, Kazmierczak had study interests in “corrections, political violence, and peace and social justice.” At the time he was also said to be writing a paper about the role of religion in the early formation of U.S. prisons.

He also served as vice president of NIU’s Academic Criminal Justice Association and was on the board of a college chapter of the American Corrections Association, which studied jailing policy and the justice system, according to related Web sites.

Personally, I don’t think it’s ironic at all. It sounds like he had a soft spot in his heart for criminals rather than victims. It’s obvious that he didn’t care about victims at all, since he made so many of his own.

Former Student Guns Down 6 in Attack at Northern Illinois University; Kills Self:

A 6th student has died from the cowardly attack at NIU. The gunman has yet to be named, but some of the victims have been identified.

My thought, prayers, and condolences go out to the friends and families of the victims.

UPDATE: Thanks to Steve Huff, the gunman has been unofficially named as Steve Kazmierczak with the motive of a failed relationship is possible.

    Shots fired at NIU

At least two injured in shooting at NIU

Two people have been wounded by a gunman at Northern Illinois University.

The shooter is allegedly a white male with a shotgun and pistol, and supposedly he’s been taken down.

As usual, as soon as I have more details and time permits, I’ll post more.

    February, it’s the new April.

This is not the first time NIU has been mentioned on this site. Back in December, NIU was in lockdown over threats found in a women’s restroom.

  • E.O. Green Junior High victim declared brain-dead

E.O. Green Junior High victim declared brain-dead

    Oxnard student declared brain dead:

Lawrence King is the 15-year-old who was shot at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, California on Tuesday. Yesterday he was declared brain-dead and as of the time of the article was being kept alive on a ventilator for organ donation.

The suspect has yet to be named because of his age, but will more than like be charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

Some people are claiming that the motive for the shooting was because Lawrence King declared that he was gay.

The teenager sometimes wore feminine clothing and makeup, and proclaimed he was gay, students said.

“He would come to school in high-heeled boots, makeup, jewelry and painted nails — the whole thing,” said Michael Sweeney, 13, an eighth-grader. “That was freaking the guys out.”

If that is, in fact, the motive, then two lives have been ruined forever just because the gunman is a petty ball of hate.

    Mitchell Johnson arrested…yet again…still not a repeat

Johnson suspected in theft of debit card:

Jonesboro gunman Mitchell Johnson just can’t catch a break, not that he deserves one.

While he stews in a Bentonville, Arkansas jail for his latest misdemeanor drug possession, it turns out that Johnson may have had his hand in another crime, using a stolen ATM card. He allegedly took it when a customer at the gas n’ gulp that he worked at left the card at the store. Johnson was ID’d by an employee of one of the places he allegedly used the card at.

Karma ain’t even close to punching your card yet, son.

Mitchell Johnson arrested…again…this is not a repeat

    Jonesboro School Shooter Arrested Again:

When you’re awaiting sentencing on federal drug and gun charges, the smart thing to do would be to not get arrested again on drug charges. Apparently, Jonesboro gunman Mitchell Johnson isn’t that smart.

He was arrested yet again Sunday night for being in possession of misdemeanor amounts of marijuana.

I’m sure the judge will take that into consideration at his sentencing.

  • This day in history: Brenda Spencer

This day in history: Brenda Spencer

Pat from BelchSpeak was kind enough to send me this link to let me know that 29 years ago today was when Brenda Spencer opened fire on a San Diego elementary school that was across the street from her house. She ended up killing two and wounding nine.

Pat asked me whatever became of her and I directed him to this post from 3 years ago when she was last denied parole.

Pat, in his usual manner, replied…

What? she hasn’t been released yet because she was a child at the time of the shooting and there is not a shred of DNA evidence that says she did it??

    Epic.

That’s the difference between now and then. Then there was no debate on what to do with a 16-year-old murderer. She was sentenced to life.
