  • One media outlet picks up on craigslist crime spree

Craigslist Criminals: The Site’s New Danger:

Finally, someone in the media recognizes the dangers of craigslist.

PORTLAND- Craigslist, the fee-free website based out of San Francisco, allows users to post items they wish to buy and sell without providing identification, a policy that is beginning to cause problems.

Portland Police say thieves are using the site to sell stolen goods. They warn: if the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

Myles Wright has been searching for the thief who stole his $4,000 handmade trailer. Someone took it from his yard several months ago. Wright had been checking Craigslist to see if anyone was trying to sell his trailer and networking with others selling trailers to see if they had any information.

His research paid off. Police arrested Forrest Green in connection with the theft. Green has allegedly been stealing trailers and using Craigslist to sell them. Wright’s trailer has not yet been recovered.

Except they’re only scratching the surface. Stolen goods are only the tip of the iceberg. Let’s not leave out prostitution, rape, child molestation, robbery, and drug pushers.

Man who advertised for teen models on craigslist arrested for sex abuse:

A convicted Portland-area sex offender who advertised for teenage “models” on the popular Web site craigslist was arrested Tuesday for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl, authorities said.

Douglas Steven French, 36, is being held in the Washington County Jail. French faces charges of sex abuse and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, said Sgt. David Thompson, spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

He said Washington County detectives learned that French had posted an advertisement on craigslist for “16 to 19-year-old models.” The name given under the listing was “Premier Modeling.”

The 17-year-old victim responded to French’s add and over the past month, French had been meeting with her on a regular basis, Thompson said. During that time, French allegedly provided her with alcohol and illegal drugs.

French was arrested in 2004 after being found in Montana with missing Molalla, Ore. girl Cynthia Lamb, who was 16 at the time. Lamb had been missing for nine months. She met French online and had moved to Montana with him, according to Thompson.

A sex offender who went on to strike again. Who would have thought?

  • Jeramie R. Eidem

Online predator admits using Myspace to lure girl, 12:

An online predator who sent sexually explicit messages to a 12-year-old Clark County girl pleaded guilty Friday to attempted rape.

“I’m the one at risk here,” Jeramie R. Eidem e-mailed to the girl, as he made arrangements for them to meet. “It’s my way or no way.”

It will be Judge John Wulle’s way Sept. 8, when he sends Eidem to prison for at least a decade.

Eidem was arrested Feb. 25 when he showed up at a Vancouver restaurant to meet the girl, who was waiting with a deputy from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. An adult neighbor of the girl had taken pictures of Eidem’s online activities and alerted police.

Eidem and the girl met on the popular Internet site Myspace.com.

The 26-year-old high school dropout was living with his parents in Columbia City, Ore., when he began sending the girl messages and masturbating for her via a Web cam. Once she told him her age, he warned her not to tell anyone.

“No, you won’t go to prison and get raped by men for 50 years. I would,” he wrote.

By that time, the neighbor had alerted police.

Eidem pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted rape of a child, luring with sexual motivation and tampering with a witness with a sexual motivation.

Authorities seized his computer, which had pornographic images stored on it.

But federal prosecutors and the Columbia County prosecutor agreed not to charge Eidem with possession of child pornography as long as he stipulated to a 10-year sentence in Clark County, deputy prosecutor Alan Harvey said Friday in Superior Court.

Wulle, however, can give Eidem a longer sentence.

Eidem will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed but then again none of them are.

This is Ediem’s MySpace but it looks like it’s been cleaned out since his arrest.

  • Patrick Buss re-arrested

MySpace predator suspect faces new charges:

Patrick Buss, who was arrested back in April for trying to lure teenage girls to a motel room, has been arrested again…

A Hubbard, Ore., man, arrested late last month for allegedly arranging to meet two high school girls at a LaPine motel was arrested Friday at the Deschutes County Courthouse on new, more serious charges involving a Tillamook County victim.

Patrick Nicholas Buss was taken into custody when he showed up at Circuit Judge Ed Perkins’ courtroom for arraignment on the original charges that included computer crime, contributing to the sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree charges of attempted sex abuse, attempted rape and attempted sodomy.

The new charges include two third-degree counts each of rape, sex abuse and sodomy, as well as furnishing alcohol to a minor and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

The investigation led to discovery of an additional victim in the Tillamook area, Edwards said Friday. At the request of Tillamook County authorities, sheriff’s detectives contacted Buss and took him into custody on the Tillamook County charges. He was lodged in the county jail, pending transport to Tillamook County.

Again, here and here are Buss’ MySpace profiles. He’s still getting comments from girls even after his initial arrest. I wonder if some vigilante commenting is in order.

  • Patrick Buss

MySpace predator suspect caught in LaPine:

A 24-year-old Hubbard, Ore. man was arrested after knocking on the door of a LaPine motel room, allegedly to meet two high school girls he chatted up in sexually explicit fashion at the online site MySpace.com, police said Friday.

Patrick Nicholas Buss was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on several charges but released early Friday on his own recognizance, pending a court date next month, officials said.

Last month, two LaPine High students contacted the sheriff’s school resource officer and reported receiving sexually explicit e-mails from an unknown man at MySpace.com, said sheriff’s Capt. Tim Edwards.

The contact initially was only “friendly conversation, but changed to sexually explicit language over the course of a few weeks,” Edwards said.

Sheriff’s detectives began an investigation and identified the man as Buss, the captain said.

Buss allegedly made arrangements to come to LaPine “for the purpose of having sexual contact with the girls,” Edwards said in a news release.

Thursday evening, Buss allegedly knocked on a motel room door “where he believed one of the girls was present, but instead was (greeted) by sheriff’s detectives who took him into custody without incident,” Edwards said.

Early Friday, Deschutes County sheriff’s detectives raided Buss’s home in Hubbard, a small town between Salem and Portland, and seized additional evidence, Edwards said.

Buss was lodged in the Bend jail on charges of computer crime, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and third-degree charges of attempted sex abuse, attempted rape and attempted sodomy, Edwards said.

But a jail officer said he was released from the crowded jail Friday morning on his own recognizance pending a May 19 court date.

And we have two MySpace profiles for Buss here and here.
