  • Pedophile fire captain turned in by own daughter

    Sort of…

Former South Jordan fire captain charged in child porn case:

45-year-old Michael Farnsworth of Riverton, Utah is under arrest on child pornography charges. He used to be a fire captain in the South Jordan Fire Department.

It all started when his daughter found a fake MySpace profile he was using that said he was 21-years-old. The daughter told Mrs. Farnsworth who confronted him about it. He claimed that was the profile he used to monitor his daughter’s activity on MySpace. I don’t know how he explained why all his MySpace friends were underage girls.

A co-worker of Mrs. Farnsworth tipped off police. I wonder how the coworker was tipped off. Anyway, police did a forensic search of Farnsworth’s computers and found a cache of child porn. But not just any child porn…

A forensic analysis of Farnsworth’s computer hard drives revealed several child pornography photos, including two listed on the nationwide Child Victim Identification Program.

You can’t much lower than that.

  • NIU may get task force

    NIU Shooting Investigation:

This is a really short article so here it goes…

There are new calls for a task force to be created at NIU to study the school’s response to the shootings on campus. The head of NIU’s Board of Trustees say’s she’ll be asking the school’s president to create the task force later this week. She also thinks the board needs to discuss whether an extensive review of the psychiatric history of gunman, Steven Kazmierczak is worthwhile.

Personally, I think that would be a waste of time and money. A lot of people try to make a comparison between NIU and Virginia Tech. There is no comparison here except that lives were lost on a college campus. At NIU the school did the best job that it could have. Police were at the scene in under a minute if I remember correctly. There’s not a whole lot that could have been done at NIU. Stephen Kazmierczak didn’t even attend NIU anymore so it’s not like he could have tipped off anyone there to his behavior. How could anyone have known what he was planning?

So save the taxpayers some money or use the money for the school’s mental health assistance program.

Sometimes there just aren’t any answers.

  • Mother in Mortal Kombat case pleads guilty to child abandonment

    stick

The mother in the so-called “Mortal Kombat Case” has been sentenced for pleading guilty to child abandonment. Dana Trujillo was sentenced to a year’s unsupervised probation. However, these charges are from an incident that happened in 2003 in New Mexico and are not related to the death of her daughter Zoe Garcia.

Zoe was allegedly killed by her sister Heather Trujillo and her boyfriend Lamar Roberts when they kicked and punched her claiming to have been practicing Mortal Kombat moves.

The charges against Dana Trujillo should give you some insight against who is really to blame in Zoe Garcia’s death. I’ll give you a hint. It’s not Mortal Kombat.

  • G-mail vs. Yahoo Mail

Ok, today I’m going to look at how the ‘new’ Yahoo Mail stacks up against G-Mail.

    + Decent Interface.

+ Can stay logged in for two weeks.

    + Feed reader included

    – The feed reader sucks

    – No forwarding yet

    – No aliasing

    – Loses messages

    – Ads galore including the tagline

Bottom Line: It’s not bad but it’s more designed for your friend that still uses Internet Explorer.

Trench’s Rating: Two out of five.

  • NC prostitute killed affter meeting man on craigslist

    prostitute

Warrants: Victim met suspected killer online:

51-year-old Bernard George Lamp of Troutman, North Carolina is accused of killing alleged prostitute Bonnie Lou Irvine of Cornelius, North Carolina. The two met over craigslist where Irvine had placed an ad.

She also directed him to pictures of herself posted on a different Web site that authorities say is popular with men seeking prostitutes, the search warrants said.

And here’s where it gets weird…

Lamp was arrested after sheriff’s deputies stopped him driving Irvine’s 2001 Volvo on March 14, said Iredell sheriff’s Capt. Darren Campbell. Authorities then found Irvine’s body buried at Lamp’s girlfriend’s home in Troutman.

According to search warrants, Lamp also met the girlfriend on Craigslist.

And it doesn’t end there. Lamp was on probation for the attempted rape of another prostitute that happened at a truck stop on I-77 in Troutman.

Is the money so great in prostitution that these women are willing to risk their lives each time they meet with a john? I doubt it is at a truck stop.

UPDATE: I guess the money is that great. Check out the video from a local news station and see some of the houses these local call girls lived in.

UPDATE 2/22/2014: Lamp was sentenced to death for Ms. Irvine’s murder.

The last person to be executed in North Carolina was Samuel Russell Flippen. He was executed in 2006 for the blunt force trauma death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter in 1994.

UPDATE 5/30/2016: Lamp died earlier today of natural causes. He probably died more peacefully than he deserved or afforded his victim.

  • Mitchell Johnson pleads not guilty to latest charges

Jonesboro Shooter Pleads Not Guilty To New Charges:

Jonesboro gunman Mitchell Johnson pleaded not guilty this past Tuesday to the theft charges against him.

Johnson is accused of taking a debit card that a customer lost in the mini-mart and using it.

Johnson is now back in jail for violating his bail agreement while he was awaiting sentencing from his federal firearms trial.

  • Cossey tipster sentenced

Former hero in Cossey case gets probation:

Lew Bennett III was the teen who turned in Dillon Cossey for plotting against Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Then Bennett along with some other teens broke into the Cossey’s home to steal some of the Cossey’s property.

Bennett and his cohorts were sentenced to probation…

At yesterday’s juvenile disposition hearing, the equivalent of an adult sentencing, the three learned that as a condition of their probation, they will have to attend a residential camp, perform 50 hours of community service, pay a fine, and make restitution. Bennett and one teen will attend the camp for two weekends, the other teen will have to attend for one weekend.

In addition, they are subject to a curfew, and must write a letter of apology, submit to random drug and alcohol testing, and attend individual and family counseling.

I’m disappointed that the suspects didn’t receive anytime in detention for their crimes. I think community service and apology letters will do no good in teaching these kids a lesson.

  • WV sex offender on MySpace

Sex Offender Fails to Register MySpace Page:

Marvin Davis of Weston, West Virginia has been charged with being a convicted sex offender and having a MySpace. It seems that Davis did some time for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old in 1996.

He’s also been charged with not registering his e-mail address.

Sex offenders have to let police know when they make any changes including addresses, phone lines, and vehicles.

If they don’t register the change within 10 days then they’ll face charges.

It’s not know if he contacted any minors through his MySpace.

  • ‘Super Mojado’: a Good-Guy Wrestler for Undocumented Workers

    SuperMojado

    Link

I may not agree with the promotion’s politics but you got to admit a tiny independent California wrestling promotion just made national news and will make big coin (for them) off of this.

Plus they’re abiding by one of wrestling’s top rules, play to your audience.

  • G-Mail vs. GMX

Today in our comparison to G-Mail we look at GMX.

Overall a nifty webmail service with just a few drawbacks.

+ Slick interface. It looks like a mail app like Thunderbird or Outlook but it’s all web-based.

    – But it all opens in a new window, not a new tab.

    – And you can’t stay logged in all day unless you leave the window up all day which leads to being caught by bosses.

/ Aliasing is kind of a toss-up. You can have 10 GMX addresses under one account but only one name. Also, you can’t alias as another e-mail address unless that service allows you to download your mail to GMX through POP.

+ Forwarding to other addresses is available.

+ No ads in the tagline.

+ Decent user forum with feedback from GMX

    – Doesn’t work in all browsers

Bottom Line: Awesome free service except for a few minor details and to be fair they are in Beta. Still not G-Mail

Trench’s Rating: 4 out of 5. Almost as good if not better than G-Mail but just misses the mark.
