    Cossey tipster sentenced

Former hero in Cossey case gets probation:

Lew Bennett III was the teen who turned in Dillon Cossey for plotting against Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Then Bennett, along with some other teens, broke into the Cossey’s home to steal some of the Cossey’s property.

Bennett and his cohorts were sentenced to probation…

At yesterday’s juvenile disposition hearing, the equivalent of an adult sentencing, the three learned that as a condition of their probation, they will have to attend a residential camp, perform 50 hours of community service, pay a fine, and make restitution. Bennett and one teen will attend the camp for two weekends, the other teen will have to attend for one weekend.

In addition, they are subject to a curfew, and must write a letter of apology, submit to random drug and alcohol testing, and attend individual and family counseling.

I’m disappointed that the suspects didn’t receive any time in detention for their crimes. I think community service and apology letters will do no good in teaching these kids a lesson.

Missouri Supreme Court: Thomas White’s case to remain in adult court:

The State Supreme Court of Missouri has ruled that the trial for Thomas White will remain in adult court.

White was 13 when he discharged a round into the ceiling from a MAC-90 assault rifle at Memorial Middle School in Joplin, Missouri.

Police allege that he tried firing the gun at the principal of the school, but the gun had jammed.

    The victimless crime in Sacramento

Local Woman Charged With Pimping Juveniles:

22-year-old Felisha Mock of Sacramento, California, has been arrested for pimping out girls as young as 16 over craigslist.

Investigators tell CBS13 that Mock set up the ring using Craigslist. The way it worked is the teenagers would allegedly solicit sex to customers, and investigators say Mock’s customers would then broker a deal over the phone getting a percentage of the sale.

Some neighbors aren’t surprised because they say drug addiction is a big problem in this neighborhood.

“And they need their drugs so they need to make money. They’re not going to work because they can’t pee in a cup,” says Carol.

But they all must have entered prostitution voluntarily because people keep telling me it’s a victimless crime.

    NIU gunman’s autopsy

NIU gunman’s autopsy shows some antidepressant, cold medicine in his system, police say:

The autopsy of NIU gunman Stephen Kazmierczak showed that the only drugs in his system were trace amounts of an antidepressant, a cold medicine, and nicotine.

Well, that blows my Ambien theory to hell.

Now the question is, will the anti-pharmaceutical Luddites blame this on the antidepressant, the lack thereof, or the cold medicine?

Don’t be surprised if we hear from the anti-smoking brigade either.

UPDATE: It wasn’t an antidepressant at all that was found in his system. It was the anti-anxiety drug Xanax.

  • 3/14/08: From the Mail Sack

    3/14/08: From the Mail Sack

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since we dipped into my sack…of mail, that is.

I received the following e-mail twice yesterday from a supporter of the West Memphis 3.

    User Name: John O’Bryan

    To whom it may concern,

I’m a little curious to know why you’re so adamant about the guilt of the West Memphis Three? Especially after the lack of DNA evidence. I grew up in Memphis and remember very vividly when the crime took place. The way the news media handled the case was ridiculous, and every southern baptist idiot within 200 miles was saying “obviously these are the guys who did it”.

Can’t you at least admit they didn’t get a fair trial? I understand you don’t want to be labeled a “follower”, but sometimes being a stubbornly obtuse contrarian can be even worse. What do you have against natalie Maines anyway? If you’re still a Bush supporter, that might go a long way toward answering ALL of my questions.

I find this e-mail kind of ironic because the whole basis of the West Memphis 3 movement is that the WM3 were allegedly judged unfairly, yet Mr. O’Bryan goes on to make a lot of judgments himself, but I digress.

Like I’ve said before, I’ve been writing about school shootings for going on 8 years now. Over the years I’ve developed sort of a profile of school shooters. Damien Echols and company fit that profile to a T. Also, like I’ve stated before, if the WM3 were born 10 years later, they would have been school shooters instead of child killers. Do I say that because they dressed in black and listened to heavy metal? No, because that describes me at the time they were convicted. Hell, it describes me now, except now my black clothes are a suit and tie instead of an Iron Maiden T-shirt and I’ll be metal until the day I die.

Can I admit that they didn’t receive a fair trial? No, I can’t. I believe the movies and books made about them were heavily biased. The authors and filmmakers already had their goal in mind when they started. Not only that, but they left a lot out of the whole story from their respective works.

As far as the DNA evidence or lack thereof goes, it proves nothing. The flip side to none of their DNA evidence being found at the scene is that Mark Byers’ DNA wasn’t there either. For years the WM3 supporters have called for the head of Mark Byers, claiming that he was the one that actually committed the murders. I could then say that since his DNA evidence wasn’t there, he couldn’t have committed the murders either. Let’s not forget that their bodies were found in a creek, which could have washed away any DNA.

What do I have against Natalie Maines? Let me count the ways. She insulted the office of the President while overseas. I don’t care who is in office at the time; have some respect for your country. She’s a member of PETA, which is only a few vegans short of being an eco-terrorism organization. She fell for the hype of the Paradise Lost movies. And lastly, her music sucks.

For the most part, West Memphis 3 supporters remind me of Ron Paul supporters and members of the so-called 9/11 Truth Movement. Just because you’re big on the internet, you think you’re more important than what you actually are.

Personally, I think you’ve all given Echols exactly what he wanted, fame and a following that was bigger than Manson’s.

  • Brewster and Burton sentenced

    Brewster and Burton sentenced

Maximum Sentences In W. Va. Torture Case:

Frankie Brewster and Karen Burton of the Megan Williams torture case have both received maximum sentences for their roles in the crime. Both had pleaded guilty in February.

Brewster received one 10-25 year sentence, while Burton was sentenced to three consecutive 2-10 year sentences on assault
charges and a 10-year sentence for a civil rights charge. So, in essence, Burton is looking at a possible 40 years.

As long as they serve the maximum of those sentences, I have no problem with this. Burton would be in her 80s, and Brewster would be in her 70s.

  • Ohio mutant claims Columbine was his idea

Ohio mutant claims Columbine was his idea

Newark man claims he suggested Columbine attack:

You may remember the tales of Patrick Gauchel that I’ve posted before.

First, he was arrested for sending threatening, violent, harassing messages to the lead Columbine investigator. Then he claimed that he was in contact with cowardly scumbags Harris and Klebold prior to Columbine. According to the article, he has also sent threats to the parents of Columbine victims

Now he’s claiming that Columbine was his idea…

“The suspect also stated it was his idea for the Columbine shooting, and it was not Eric’s fault for what happened,” Detective Cliff Biggers wrote.

Cliff Biggers is an awesome name for a cop, but I digress.

By claiming that Columbine wasn’t the fault of Eric Harris, this may just make Gauchel the king of all mutants, which is kind of like being the president of NAMBLA. It makes him the ultimate Columbine apologist by saying that his hero is innocent.

The following quote, though, explains everything…

Other messages included in the update are nonsensical.

As he noted in his report, Biggers said Gauchel appears to have mental health issues.

    Most mutants do.

Rubbing salt in Tobin Kerns’ wounds

    Town cops receive commendations:

How’s this for adding insult to injury?

The two cops who arrested Tobin Kerns in the plot against Marshfield High in Massachusetts have received commendations for their work.

I wonder if they were commended for arresting an innocent kid, IMO, rather than arresting the actual suspect, Joe Nee, after kids came forward.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Nee’s father is head of the Boston police union. (I know, I get tired of typing it as much as you get tired of reading it.)

That’s some fine work there, Lou.

  • Sharpton on Dunbar Village suspects

    Sharpton on Dunbar Village suspects

Sharpton says Dunbar Village defendants being treated unfairly:

I normally don’t blog political anymore. I got burnt out on politics during the ’04 election period. The political discussion during that time became reduced to a shouting match between all parties, and actual discourse was thrown out the window. However, I will blog about the politics of crime if I’m so moved. It took the Reverend Al Sharpton to move me to blog about the subject I find so distasteful.

When Rev. Sharpton isn’t playing the race card, he actually does do some good for the black community at large. I specifically remember Rev. Sharpton being on America’s Most Wanted trying to help find the killer of Chanel Petro Nixon. So not all of Sharpton’s antics are that bad.

But this one is. Sharpton is saying that the suspects in the Dunbar Village gang rape are being unfairly treated since they’ve been held with no bond. Meanwhile, the suspects from the Boca Raton gang rape are free on bond.

On one hand, I agree with the Reverend Sharpton that the Boca teens should be held with no bond. On the other hand, Rev. Sharpton is picking the wrong example to use to make his point.

In the Dunbar case, a group of teens stormed the victim’s place of residence, robbed her, raped her and then forced her to have sex with her own son.

In the Boca case, some teens got some girls drunk to the point of passing out and then took advantage of them.

The severity of the Dunbar Village case is what’s keeping those suspects behind bars, not their skin color.

  • Adamcik’s reduced sentence request denied

    Adamcik’s reduced sentence request denied

Pocatello Teen Denied Reduced Life Sentence:

17-year-old Torey Adamcik is one of the teens convicted in the brutal murder of 16-year-old Cassie Jo Stoddart. Along with his mutant buddy Brian Draper, the pair was sentenced to life without parole. Adamcik’s attorney requested a reduced sentence. Let’s hear from the attorney in question, Aaron Thompson…

“He is just a boy. A 17-year-old boy. A boy with absolutely no hope. A boy with absolutely no future,” said Aaron Thompson, Torey Adamcik’s Attorney.

He’s got a hell of a lot more future than Cassie Jo Stoddart has.

“So what if Torey is in a tiny little room? My granddaughter will never leave her casket,” said Paul Cisneros, Cassie Jo Stoddart’s grandfather.

Anyway, the request for reduced sentencing was denied, and the judge laid the ol’ legal smackdown…

“He is guilty. He was found guilty. And he’s guilty as conduct. They jury has spoken. I don’t believe Mr. Adamcik should ever be released from prison. I’m going to deny your motion,” said Judge Peter McDermott, Bannock County.

It’s so refreshing to see a judge tell it like it is.

Adamcik’s cohort Draper will be in court on a similar request in 2 weeks. I’d be surprised if the scenario didn’t repeat itself.
