  • What to do when your stuff is stolen

In the past year, one of the most common questions I get is “My (insert name of item here) has been stolen and placed on craigslist. What do I do?” That answer is a very simple one. Call your local police and enlist their help.

I know there have been stories on here where citizens have taken matters into their own hands and have been successful in getting their stuff back but I do not recommend that. It only takes a split second for a situation like that to turn into a tragic one.

Please leave law enforcement in the hands of professionals.

  • More evidence made public during Casey Anthony’s bond hearing

Grandmother of Missing Florida Toddler Says Her Daughter Left Caylee With Someone Who Betrayed Her:

The latest in the search for Caylee Marie Anthony is that her grandmother, Cindy Anthony, is now saying that she believes Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, gave Caylee to someone to watch for her then this mystery person betrayed Casey’s trust and took Caylee.

Just yesterday it was she felt that Casey had done something with Caylee. Grandma changes her story more than I change my socks.

What’s next? Alien abduction? Drug Lords? Dingos? I hate to make light of such a horrible situation but Cindy Anthony is making it hard not to.

    Casey Anthony Bond Set: $500,000:

This is the most comprehensive article so far about the whole situation. To me, it’s starting to seem that the whole family is due for an extended stay in the cracker factory. Grandma Anthony has some more great quotes in this article.

As you can tell by the headline Casey Anthony’s bond was set at $500K. The last I heard she had not bonded out. However, I want to focus on why policed consider Casey Anthony a ‘person of interest’.

The first thing is when they found Casey Anthony’s abandoned car police say it reeked of ‘decomposition’, there was a stain in the trunk that shined under black light, there was dirt in the trunk, and there was hair in the trunk that they believe is consistent with the hair of Caylee Marie Anthony.

Police focused on the car when they received the tip from the neighbor that I mentioned before about Casey borrowing a shovel. The article elaborates that in mid-June Casey had her car backed up to the garage when she had asked to borrow the shovel.

This is all circumstantial evidence but I’m afraid things are not looking so good right now for Caylee Marie’s return. I really do hope I’m wrong.

  • Mercades Nichols’ mom files lawsuit

Legal Action Considered Against Polk Sheriff:

This one is from the “Boy does that woman have brass ones” department.

Christina Garcia is the mother of Mercades Nichols. Mercades is one of if not the main suspect in the videotaped beating of Victoria Lindsay.

You would think that Ms. Garcia has more important matters to attend to like making sure her daughter stays out of jail but no. Ms. Garcia has taken it upon herself to file a lawsuit against Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd for making ‘defamatory’ remarks and causing ‘severe emotional damages’.

In her intent to sue notice, Bernard wrote that Judd failed to handle the arrest of the teens “with integrity and a degree of care” that would have protected them “against unfair treatment and exposure.”

Judd has described the March 30 beating in published news stories as “animalistic” and said that after the teens were arrested, they were laughing together in a holding cell, saying “Am I going to miss cheerleading practice?” and “I guess we’re not going to the beach this week.”

I didn’t know you could be sued for the truth. Garcia’s face is causing me severe emotional damages. Can I sue for that?

  • The search for Caylee Marie Anthony gets even stranger

Casey Anthony’s Lawyer Trying To Get Her Out Of Jail On Bond:

This article is about Casey Anthony’s lawyer trying to get her released on bond. By the time I post this, she may have already been released. However, there was a quote from the article I found particularly chilling considering the events…

Cynthia Anthony says Casey has always been a writer and recently the family has been going through her journals, hunting for clues. She said a certain amount of jealousy over Caylee crept into her relationship with her own daughter.

Crept is the right word because this situation keeps getting creepier as the days go by.

Where is missing 2-year-old? Her mother may know:

The Grandmother of Caylee Marie Anthony appeared on the Today Show this morning and I still think she’s too trusting of her daughter. Cindy Anthony believes that her daughter knows who has Caylee Marie but is too afraid to talk to police. She also says that if the police let her talk to Casey she feels she’ll open up to her.

I think that if someone did take Caylee Marie Anthony that Casey Anthony might have opened up to the cops by now considering all the media attention. If there are actual kidnappers I would imagine that all this publicity would be putting Caylee Marie in grave danger.

Casey Anthony’s lawyer, Jose Baez, says he knows why Casey isn’t cooperating with police but says he’s not at liberty to say.

Grandma Defends Daughter, Asks Public for Help Finding Missing Toddler:

On the other hand, the Orlando police are not so trusting in Casey…

“We believe Casey knows where the girl is because everything she’s told us so far has turned out to be lies,” Orlando sheriff’s spokesman Carlos Padilla told FOXNews.com on Sunday.

Grandmother Of Missing Toddler Says Daughter “Has Done Something”:

It’s amazing the difference a day can make. All the above stuff I wrote earlier in the day but now I’m writing just before I post this.

Casey Anthony’s mom, Cindy Anthony, has now changed her story and is saying that she believes her daughter did have something to do with the disappearance of Caylee Marie Anthony. The article also delves deeper into the jealousy aspect mentioned above. With another really weird quote…

“When you give birth to a child, you want to hold that child yourself for the first time. You don’t want to see your mother hold that child for the first time. And unfortunately it was me or nobody, because she wasn’t allowed to hold the baby at that time,” Cynthia said.

I wonder what that was all about.

  • The problem with safe haven laws

Who will be left at havens?:

On one of the stories where I talked about the Safe Haven Laws in most states a commenter brought up the great point is that the reason we still have so many baby dumpings and the like is that the states all have different laws. They have different names for them and different places that babies can be left not to mention different grace periods. Making things even more difficult is that the laws are not widely publicized. Now to make matters even more complicated the vaguest safe haven laws went into effect this past Friday in Nebraska.

Under the Nebraska laws, there is no age restriction to how old the child being dropped off can be. As with most things that start out with good intentions this will lead to widespread abuse of the laws. According to the article, at least one adoption agency has received inquiries from people who wanted to get rid of their kids who were more than a year old.

The law is unnecessarily confusing as well. In most safe haven cases a baby can be dropped off at a hospital or police or fire station without any fear of prosecution if the baby is unharmed. It seems like under the Nebraska law prosecution can still happen.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services will take custody of safe haven children and treat those cases the same as other cases of abandonment, said Todd Landry, director of children and family services.

That means trying to identify the child’s parents and family and, if the parents can be found, assessing whether the child should be reunited with them.

I thought the whole point of safe haven laws were to protect the children and not reunite them with the parents that abandoned them.

I can almost guarantee you that this law will be abused and it won’t prevent baby dumpings from happening, unfortunately.

There needs to be a federally uniform safe haven law since the states can’t seem to get it together and for the most part, have not prevented baby dumpings.

  • Did Caylee call?

100 Leads Actively Pursued For Missing Girl; Caylee Just Called, Says Grandmother:

The grandmother of Caylee Marie Anthony, Cindy Anthony, is saying that the missing girl spoke on the phone with her mother, Casey Anthony, last week.

“Casey got a phone call (saying) ‘Hi mommy’ for just a brief second,” Anthony said. “And when Casey said, ‘Put an adult on the phone Caylee,’ the phone went dead.’”

I can’t say for certain but that sounds like second-hand information that was given to the grandmother by Casey Anthony.

  • More on the search for Caylee Marie Anthony

A neighbor of Casey Anthony claims that she borrowed a shovel about a month ago. Investigators have taken that shovel into evidence.

Meanwhile, Casey Anthony’s lawyer is claiming that Caylee Marie is in either Miami, Charlotte, NC, or New York City but would not elaborate.

  • Casey Anthony doesn’t report daughter missing

Girl Missing 5 Weeks Never Reported Lost; Mother Says Doing Own Search:

So say you were the mother of a 2-year-old girl and she suddenly goes missing what would be the first thing you do? Probably call the police right? Not 22-year-old Casey Anthony of Florida. According to local police her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, has been missing for 5 weeks and police weren’t notified until the grandparents of Caylee Marie called because they were concerned about their granddaughter’s safety.

When questioned by police Anthony said that she was conducting her own investigation for her child and the reason she didn’t go to the police is that “she saw movies and reports” about other people who went to the police got hurt.

Anthony hasn’t been exactly forthcoming with any details or honesty for that matter. She refused to tell a judge where her daughter is and she’s been handing a line of bull to the police according to the article. She claims that she last saw her daughter with a babysitter. The alleged baby sitter’s home had been empty for 5 months and when questioned the alleged baby sitter says she never sat for Anthony. Also, Anthony claimed employment at some place she never worked at.

Just on my gut instincts, I have some theories as to what happened but I won’t discuss them here since I don’t want to jinx the investigation. All I’ll say is that I’m afraid this story won’t have a happy ending.

  • Here’s to you iPod offering craigslist rapist guy

Ada County jury finds man guilty of attempted rape after posting Craigslist ad offering free iPod:

Our favorite iPod offering would be Idaho craigslist rapist, Stephen Newman, was found guilty of attempted rape.

It seems the Newman had a predilection for rape as he would take videos of himself and an ‘actress’ who would pretend to be raped. Not to mention the fact the items he was found with.

The jury only deliberated for three hours.

No word on when sentencing will be yet.

  • Puking DUI killer

Alleged DUI killer’s MySpace profile depicts youth consumed with money, drugs and graffiti:

This is a great article from the Philadelphia Daily News which happens to be my favorite newspaper of all time. It’s about one 18-year-old Joseph Genovese Jr. Genovese is accused in the DUI death of one woman and the injury of another, both from who were only in town to see their favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, play the Phillies. Police allege that Genovese ran a red light while under the influence then struck 43-year-old Cindy Grassi, who was killed and 36-year-old Sandra Wacker.

As what happens in some of these cases involving young kids police and media go looking at the suspect’s MySpace and they found a plethora of damning information. Genovese fashioned himself a pot smoking, drinking, tagging, thug on MySpace. I implore you to read the entire article so you can see the depths of ridiculousness on his MySpace. At one point he was using his mugshot as his profile pic.

Of course in real life, he’s no gangsta at all…

According to one law enforcement source, Genovese was nowhere near as tough as he appears on his MySpace page when he turned himself in with his lawyer and family on Tuesday afternoon to AID.

The teen looked “pale-faced and kept throwing up,” the source said. The source said that Genovese didn’t say much, except that he was distraught over the incident.

    He’s hardcore.

Now while this waste of matter sits in jail I’m sure I’ll be inundated by all his stupid buddies saying “FrEe J-BoNeZ” or some stupid crap like that.
