Ex-Mountie gets one day in jail

Former Mountie cops plea One day in jail for trying to lure underage girls using Internet:

A while ago, I posted about former Canadian Mountie Adam Jonathan Clarke. He was arrested for trying to lure teen girls for sex over Nexopia. Last week, he pleaded guilty to two counts of communicating to lure a child under age 18. What sentence did he receive? A day in jail.

I guess the Mounties always get their man but the courts set them free.

    VT Shooter identified

    Va. Tech Gunman Named:

    Short article…

Virginia Tech officials today identified the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people and then himself on the Blacksburg campus yesterday as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui of Centreville.

Cho was a South Korean native who had immigrated to this country, the university announced on its Web site this morning. He was a senior majoring in English, and lived in a dorm on campus, officials said.

Last night while I was on Shaun OMac Radio. I said that the gunman was from China, as it was reported that his student visa was issued in Shanghai.

I will be on Shaun OMac Radio again tonight at 9:30 ET.

Last night’s show can be heard below.

    (It’s long since been deleted.)

    Virginia Tech shootings

I know everyone is expecting me to post about the shootings at Virginia Tech. To be honest with you all, I just returned from a week’s vacation without internet access. I still have a lot of e-mail to catch up on and a lot of information to process. But I will be posting about it.

Also, I’m hoping to be a guest again on Shaun OMac Radio tonight at 9:30 ET to discuss the VT shootings.

  • John Wentworth sentenced

    John Wentworth sentenced

MySpace sex offender gets 3½ years in prison:

Another pioneer of the MySpace predators has been sentenced. John Wentworth of Naperville, Illinois, was sentenced to only 3 1/2 years behind bars for having sexual contact with an underage teen he met on MySpace.

As far as I can tell, Wentworth only had internet contact with his victims. I wonder how many have not come forward, since the article states he would send out 50 messages a day on MySpace.

“This is not an isolated incident or a single offense,” Judge Perry Thompson said as he sentenced Wentworth. Wentworth was charged last year with two felonies after he met a 15-year-old Naperville girl online and then during a subsequent meeting engaged in sexual activity with her.

“This event devastated my family,” the teen, now 16, said in court before sentencing.

I’m sure the judge’s hands were tied with sentencing, but 3 1/2 years is not enough to discourage this predator from trying again.

Pimped his handicapped sister for sex on craigslist

Man accused of advertising mentally challenged sister on craigslist for sex:

I wish I was making this one up.

A Las Vegas man is under arrest accused of sexually assaulting his mentally challenged sister and attempting to offer her for sex out on the internet. 34-year-old Rodney Nickerson is being held on $800,000 bail.

According to a police report, Nickerson admitted to putting a photo of his 36-year-old sister on craigslist website. The ad featuring his sister apparently asked men if they wanted to have sex with her.

The report states Nickerson also fondled his sister and had another man touch her as well.

Whatever jail time this scumbag receives will never be enough.

  • Bartley pleads guilty and is sentenced

Bartley pleads guilty and is sentenced

Boy agrees to 45 years in school killing:

15-year-old Kenneth Bartley Jr., the gunman in the Campbell County High shooting, has pleaded guilty to the murder of Assistant Principal Ken Bruce and the attempted murders of Principal Gary Seale and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce.

Bartley was sentenced to 45 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder and two charges of second degree attempted murder. Bartley was looking at life sentences if he went to trial.

Personally, I’m pleased with the sentence. I feel that justice has been done.

  • Letavec sentenced

    Letavec sentenced

Man sentenced to 10 years for assaulting girl he met on MySpace:

One of the first predators ever mentioned on this site, Stephen Letavec, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for molesting a 14-year-old girl.

To refresh your memory, Letavec was a married father of two in his 40s who traveled from Elrama, Pa. to Connecticut to have sex with the 14-year-old girl three times.

Two of those times they engaged in sex. She told Letavec she was 18, but eventually told him her true age before Letavec ever met her in person. Let the creepiness commence…

“I showed you what love is and how it feels,” Letavec wrote in an e-mail found in the girl’s school locker, according to an FBI report. “I want to show you how making love feels too, not just sex because there is a difference.”

After Letavec gets out, he will have 10 years of supervised release. Considering he was looking at a max of 60 years, he should consider himself very lucky.

My opinion is that 10 years is not enough, even though the U.S. Attorney’s office disagrees…

“This sentence should send a very strong message to anyone who intends to use the Internet to prey on children,” U.S. Attorney Kevin OConnor said Monday.

Who knows if there were any other girls before this one? 10 years may be a strong message. 60 years would have been a lot stronger.

  • CMPD instructed to stay quiet

    CMPD instructed to stay quiet

Officers Ordered To Remain Mum On Investigation Into Deadly CMPD Shootings:

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has been instructed to not release any information regarding the investigation of the shooting deaths of officers Jeffrey Shelton and Sean Clark.

District Attorney Peter Gilchrist confirmed that he has instructed Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to release no more information about the case against Montgomery and the investigation that surrounds it.

Gilchrist says talking about whether the murder weapon has been found or whether police are still looking for it, or even whether Montgomery’s hands have been tested for gunshot residue, could hurt the investigation.

I am personally very happy with this decision. If a conviction is eventually handed down, I don’t want there to be any doubt or causes for endless appeals. I’m sure the families, friends, and co-workers of officers Clark and Shelton do too.

  • Odgren may recover memory

    Odgren may recover memory

Lawyer Says Teen Charged In School Killing May Recover Memory:

Now that he’s been ruled competent to stand trial, John Odgren’s attorney is saying that Odgren’s memory of the murder of James Alenson may return.

Jonathan Shapiro now tells “The Boston Globe” that the extent and permanence of Odgren’s amnesia is unclear. Last Monday he withdrew a request for a mental competency hearing.

This is after prosecutors planned to hire their own psychologist to do a comprehensive examination that would give them access to all of Odgren’s medical and psychiatric records.

It’s funny how things work out that way.

  • Sealed depositions may end study

    Sealed depositions may end study

Sealed depositions may be end of Columbine study:

Read the words of one Professor Del Elliott, director of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado.

Professor Del Elliott said Tuesday he doubts he will undertake a study into the causes behind the Columbine High School shootings now that depositions of the killers’ parents have been sealed.

In the meantime, the nationally recognized expert on violence prevention said he expects the ruling will translate into more lives lost.

“We’ve not had a chance to learn much about was going on in the lives of (killers) Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold that precipitated this event,” he said.

“Unfortunately, it’s going to be repeated,” he added, “and maybe then we’ll learn more about the circumstances which lead young people to commit these kinds of horrendous acts.”

I hope you’re paying attention, Judge Lewis Babcock. I hope that robe can help you clean the blood of future victims off your hands.
