Questions Remain About Beating:

It seems that the now infamous taped beating of Victoria Lindsay may have been retaliation for MySpace drama.

Let’s hear from one of the suspects’ mothers defending her precious little snowflake.

According to the mother of one of the suspects, the victim of the beating, Victoria Lindsay of Lakeland, posted numerous MySpace bulletins, or public messages, insulting the girls. Lindsay called them names and claimed the girls wouldn’t fight her because they were too scared, said Christina Garcia, mother of Mercades Nichols.

That’s still no reason for a 6 on one beating with two lookouts. Ms. Garcia, where were you when all this was happening?

And for good measure let’s throw in Mercades’ MySpace. Stay classy.

Christina Garcia needs to stop with the radio and television interviews and get her daughter a lawyer. She thinks she’s changing people’s minds about the situation, but really I’m sure all of us think she’s ignorant, uneducated and a poor parent. Those girls were horrible and vicious. The video is absolutely sickening to watch and all over MySpace?? Are you serious? Garcia mentioned that the story was overblown by the media because only the worst 3 minutes were shown out of a 30 minute video. My reaction was oh my God how could they beat her for 27 minutes longer than what’s in that tape? Karma will get those girls back while they’re doing jail time. They won’t be ganging up on anyone anytime soon.

In one of her pictures, she reminded me of Heather Wendorf, the little bitch that got off with having her parents killed, “the vampire slaying” in Lake county.
There is no justification for their actions, none, and I’d be ashamed if any of them were my children. Where was the mercy?
This really hurts me deeply. It is akin to the murder of my brother last year by three punks, one of which was his nephew. They caught him on the phone and attacked him with a bat-like stick, he was unaware, he didn&rsquot stand a chance. They beat him into a stupor. They stabbed my brother repeatedly after beating him &amp kicking him, they slit his throat then beat him in the side of his head until the side of his face caved in, then they pissed on him. One boy was 16, the others 17 &amp 20 at the time.
These little punks deserve to die for what they did. They buried him in the edge of the grove in a shallow grave and for 4 1/2 months we suffered wondering if we&rsquod find his body because we knew he was dead. He would never go more than a few days without contacting us.
In some cases neglect makes a child hardened but not in all cases. When a kid reaches a certain age they know right from wrong and we can only hope their conscience won&rsquot let them take it as far as these boys did.
I hope these kids get a stiff sentence. It hurts to see this because of what happened to my brother, I hope the girl is okay.
The trial for my brothers killers hasn&rsquot taken place yet, we&rsquore still trying to get the third suspect from Canada. They kept the third suspect out of the papers until they caught him.
He has a virtual memorial, if anyone is interested. Please go look and sign his guestbook. We&rsquore all still having a really hard time dealing with this and it would mean alot to me and my family.

It’s sad more than anything. These children should’ve been taught long ago that violence isn’t the answer, and instead, they went, formed a mob, and destroyed a young girl’s life. You know, even if she was running her mouth, no one deserves a -gang- of people beating them. I wouldn’t even be upset this badly if it had been a one on one fight. This wasn’t that. I looked at Mercades’ MySpace when this story first broke, and man… what a fucking atrocity that girl is. She epitomizes white trash. And the other night when her profile was getting spammed with comments, her profile quote was “FUCK YA’LL, I’D DO IT AGAIN!!!” Just look at her profile friends…most of them are teens with babies and little ghetto hoodrats. In her pictures section alone she brags about fucking random guys, getting touched by her uncle, and hunting small animals. What a complete waste of skin.

Fair Trial

Although what happened is horrendous and I in no way condone what happened, to be fair two of the girls seem to just sit on the couch facing the television the entire time. One of them seems to be covering her face with her hands. Towards the end of the abridged version, you can even hear someone repeatedly saying, “just let her run away.” I get the sense that the girls on the couch didn’t want to go along with this, but were just too afraid to face up to the four other girls who were actually physically attacking or filming the attack on Victoria. I’m not sure that being a coward warrants the same punishment as punching someone in the face for 30 minutes.

Then again, my speculation is based on a few seconds of blurry video, so maybe these two were just as equally and viciously involved. If I were on the jury, I would convict the four main attackers in a heartbeat, but I would need some additional proof besides the video before I would convict the other two with anything as serious as assault.

First off all the folks that say they left comments on the myspace pages of these shitheads are lying, unless they are already on those people’s friends lists (you can’t leave comments if you’re not a friend… and if you can you’re not on the right page cause these girls have their shit locked up tight).

Secondly… I’m sick of people saying they’re praying for Victoria and then saying “Eye for an Eye” cause that’s BS. You’re not a Christian if you tie those two together…. WWJD? Is not answered with “Eye for an Eye”. That just makes you as nasty as them.

I’m 6’4″ and 280lbs and let me tell you that when I saw that video the first thing that rolled through my head was “If I had been there…”

Thing is I wasn’t there, and none of us were. The only time violence would have been an answer is in trying to save Victoria when it first happened. Now the answer is to pray for Victorial and pray that these punks straighten their heads out and become productive members of society.

I honestly don’t think trying these kids as adults and giving them permanent records and lengthy prison terms is going to fix anything. What we’re going to do is manufacture some hardened criminals who have already lost the best years of their lives so now they’re gonna just go through the ‘revolving door system’ and cost taxpayers tens of thousands.

Wanna fix these kids? Sue them and garnish their wages… nothing like $$$ coming out of every check to remind you of a mistake and have the money go to Victoria. This also still let’s them be productive, and not cost taxpayer money while they learn to be criminals from criminals.

Everyone deserves a second chance, don’t forget that.

Settle, I do agree with you for the most part. Violence isn’t exactly a good response, and I don’t agree with jail for the very facts you’ve stated.

-However- I think that military school or boot camp -is- an excellent alternative and I think it’s one that should be utilized. I’m not really a fan of the military (Rather it’s leaders–I love our troops) but I think it could be a wonderful punishment and an excellent way to turn hood rats into productive members of society. Garnish their wages? Sure. But what would that -really- do? Take some of their freedom away too, and send a message that this sort of thing will NOT be tolerated by our society any more.

This violence is getting worse these days, much worse. Students are attacking teachers, attacking each other, and showing themselves to be without empathy, without love, and without respect for their fellow man. Surely us as parents are to blame, and now we must fix it. These are the people that will one day be leading our nation. Do we really want this to happen?

It can be said that in America, prison sentences are often longer, harsher, and cost taxpayers significantly more money than sentences for similar crimes in Europe. I don’t know which system is better, but I do think that society is better served if NON-violent offenders are put on probation instead of behind bars.

The crime against Victoria Lindsey, however, is not only violent in the extreme, it is also premediated. The offenders may be “stupid”, but that does not relieve them from knowing right from wrong. Ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse from being punished under the law.

I remember in school, even as early as 6th grade, we were taught the basics about crime and what it meant to “go to jail”. In junior high, the police came to class one day to explain what being in jail means, and later, we made a field trip to the local jail to see how living there is really like. I remember the jail cell with the bare necessities, the stark hallways, and the guards making their rounds. It wasn’t a place I ever wanted to spend time and my friends felt likewise. Everytime we went to the local 7/11 and contemplated shoplifting, I remembered that jail and told myself, “no way”. I think I was about 14 years old at that time.

The attackers of Victoria Lindsey are not elementary or junior high school age. They are certainly not 14 years old. They are older teens with the ability to have fully grasped the concept of “right and wrong”, whether they have made a field trip to the local jail or not. Even if their parents failed in raising them properly, they were not ignorant of what constitutes crime. There’s plenty of chances to learn about crime in school and by watching TV. Unless a person is mentally ill, by the time you are entering high school, it is very clear that committing a crime is punishable. This was not an impulsive act by immature minds incapable of self-control. It was premeditated and executed according to the plan.

Hard prison time will keep these offenders off the street and give peace of mind to society that violent crimes will be punished. How long should they stay in prison? That will be up to the jury to recommend and the judge to decide. Will their sentences be shortened for “good behavior”? Only time will tell.

That said, I completely disagree with those of you who believe house arrest is sufficient punishment. House arrest sets a bad example for others who contemplate similar violent crimes as it affords the least measure of punishment for the offenders. Recently, there was an article about a couple girls who admitted plotting a similar attack on a teen they knew, but gave up the idea when they read that the attackers of Victoria Lindsey had been arrested and would face the charges as adults. The gloomy prospect of prison time is a strong deterrent for many people who see that society will hold you responsible for your actions.

Masters, THANK you for your intelligent response on these events. I have to say, I agree with you entirely on your points. When I first started reading this story I considered that boot camp might be sufficient punishment for these girls and boys, but in all honesty the longer I read about this, how unrepentant they are, and how remarkably without empathy each and every one of them is, I have to say they need to go to jail and learn that their behavior has consequences. Unfortunately their parents did not teach them what they should’ve from the beginning. Were they younger, I would lay blame on the parents for this atrocity, but these children are old enough to think for themselves, a year away from legal adulthood, and know better. We cannot any more blame the parents for this in the long run. Not at their age. Unfortunately, in this case the poor beaten girl is going to have to suffer with long term injuries, and these pseudo-adults are going to have to go to jail. They deserve their sentence, but I must say I pity them. What dark world is their mind bred in that this could ever be acceptable reactions from them toward one lone, defenseless girl?

to the gentleman who said that “an eye for an eye” is not a very christian response to these attacker’s, where does he think that phrase came from?! it came from the Bible, that’s where! there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting the punishment fit the crime, so i will say again that i hope karma pays a visit to these attackers in the same way that they doled it out. now, it’s been a good week or so that these attackers have been sitting in jail, getting a good taste of what’s in store for them, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they are all wishing they could turn back time… if they have an ounce of brains at all in their violent little skulls, they’ll be writing apology letters to Victoria, begging forgiveness, explaining how the plan to beat Victoria was just hatched the hour before it took place (if that is indeed how it went down– i think the lesser amount of time that was involved in the planning will maybe be a factor, now if they had planned this thing all week then that’s a different story…), and they need to show some remorse for God’s sake, not sit there trying to be all billy-bad-ass with no emotions or expressions of sympathy or realization of how wrong their actions were… they need to admit that they must have been temporarily out of their minds, then maybe MAYBE they will have a chance at a lighter sentence… not that i’m advocating for a lighter sentence, but i would like to see these attackers admit their wrongdoing and show some concern for the victim and apologize… same goes for that idiot mother who tried to say her daughter’s actions were justified because of trash talk that Victoria did… that woman needs to also apologize… and then the Lindsay family needs to sue the livin’ shit out of all of them 🙂

I agree with practically every comment I’ve read so far. Someone made a very good point, the phrase an eye for an eye comes from the bible. The horrific crime Mercedes and her following pack of hounds commited needs to have a recourse. Sending these girls to jail will not make them hardened criminals. In fact, I personally think they had a long and hard lapse of good judgement. These aren’t city thugs, these are hollister wearing suburbian teenage girls. They DESERVE to go to jail, but I doubt they will get any hard time. Whatever time they get, I doubt it’ll turn these teenage girls into pregnant coke addicted prostitutes. It will teach them a lesson, and it will change their life forever.. for the better.

I find it rather disgustin that Christina Garcia had the “courage” to even show her face on television to claim her daughters innocense. Her defense to her daughters actions was that Victoria, or Tori as they call her, posted mean comments and bulletins about them on MySpace calling the whores, sluts…(ect.) IRONICALLY, one of the girls is bragging (on the video in the middle of the argument) about one of Victorias recent or previouse boyfriends(Marcus or JaMarcus, didn’t quite catch name) cheating on victoria with her. I’m almost positive these girls are such victims of public humiliation as Christina Garcia would argue.

Hey, there’s always a positive side right?
Atleast I know my tax dollars are going to be educating these ignorant children in prison… or atleast that’s all we can hope for!

The victim brought this on herself? Like she knew she was going to get beat by 6 others??? Even if she challenged one of them – maybe that would have been a fair fight. What I found amazing is that Mercedes my space page says that she is a christian, but has trashy music and God awful things on it. And, she should remove that she is a Christian off of her page, because she is giving all of us a bad name. It is Christian’s like her that make people not want to be a Christian. What a hypocrite. I feel that these girls are old enough and have enough life experience to know right from wrong to know what they did was wrong. They knew that there would be the possibility that they could be punished for it or they would not have driven her around and threaten her to not talk about it. So, that being said, they ALL should be punish to the most severe extent of the law. We have proof of the crime, because video doesn’t lie, her injuries are consistant with what happened, and the attitude to which these girls showed at their arraignments, was just unbelieveable. The grandmother who wants someone to sit these girls down and talk to them…all I have to say to her, is the time to sit them down has gone….it is time to lock them up and let them cool their heels in jail. They think violence is the way to solve problems, let them see what happens when that is what you do. Put them in prison where they belong. All of them, no deals.

To Angela, the person ranting and raving about how these girls make others not want to be christians.

Christianity is a way of life, a way of beleaving and the platform of your norm structures. People don’t want to be Christian becuase they don’t have the same ethics and morals or they just don’t agree or believe in some things if not most that we do. If you make your decision on religion, or any choice based on what you see or hear, your way of life is just as bad as these girls. You’re a FOLLOWER! obviously not a leader. Mercades needs to be put in a mental hospital. She has been allowed to roam free far too long and now she thinks of herself as an animal. He mom Christina Garcia needs to be put in jail for about 6 months and for every time Mercades gets into legal trouble Mrs. Garcia ( aka White Trash ) needs to spend another 6 months in jail until she teaches her daughter to behave. That is the problem parents don’t give a damn anymore so therefor these kids are out of control. If the courts would start putting parents in jail for the crimes their minors commit I assure you parents would step up and make these kids behave.
