Psych exam ordered for Thomas White

Mental exam ordered for school-gun teen:

A judge has ordered Thomas White to undergo a mental examination to see if he is competent enough to assist in his own defense.

If you’ll recall White is accused of discharging an assault rifle in Memorial Middle School in Joplin, MO. He is also accused of trying to shoot the principal but the gun jammed.

His defense is now claiming that White has schizophrenia. If it didn’t work for John Jason McLaughlin I seriously doubt it will work for White.

The judge did turn down a request for White to be released into the recognizance of his parents. You know, where his ex-drug dealer dad had the gun just lying around. That was probably a good idea.

    He doesn’t have schizophrenia, just another aspie kid (even his sis thinks so) so I don’t know what they are trying to do here. But after 18 months in solitary would you be sane? He probably has changed a lot in that time.

    Is his sister a doctor?

    And again it seems like your saying either all aspies are potential killers or they don’t know right from wrong.

    Nah, he was just socially frustrated and he had a rash idea of how to get out of his torture device (remember he is technically “mentally retarded” when it comes to thinking on his feet.) And no his sister is not a doctor, but you give a sister who knows her brother more then anyone a copy of DSM-IV and a couple of guides they should be able to tell you if it sounds like him. I still don’t believe that he went into the school with the intention of killing anyone, just when he got there and realized that he couldn’t escape his inability to think on his feet took over and he tried to get out of the situation in an extremely dumb way. Most of the evidence would seem to suggest this.

    P.S. That reminds me, in what kindof society is a boy who is mentally retarded when it comes to thinking on his feet not in special education. Do you have to be rich to get that sort of attention in America? How obvious of a clue is someone failing half their classes while trying as hard as they possibly can a clue that somethings wrong.

    How is he ‘technically’ mentally retarded? Is that like how you ‘technically’ have Aspergers?

    Shortly after the shooting he was tested in a variety of ways to ascertain how he should be tried. One of these tests stated that while he was at level or higher in many areas on several areas he was far below level, and in 1 or 2 areas he scored the lowest score (it would be on the Globes website but I really don’t feel like looking up the article right now) hence he is technically mentally retarded in a few areas. Hence he should have been eduated differently and could have very easily paniced and not been able to think on his feet (that was one of the tests where he got the lowest scores) and well… the rest is history.

    P.S. Next you are going to find fault in a person saying he has Lou Gehrigs disesse when he really has ALS. Thats about the difference between NVLD and AS.

Theres more in that article (like how the principal isn’t sure he ever pulled the trigger) but thats quite important.

    Because he couldn’t have possibly faked anything on that test.

    Apparently he didn’t fake enough.

    If ALS was genetic and Lou Gehrig’s was caused from trauma than yeah, they would be different.

    Yeah, I am sure the tests didn’t look at his history even a little bit… or maybe he has been faking for years. Sounds like you don’t believe a psycatrist who is sure, but you believe a principals who isn’t… can you explain your logic there :).

    So now your assuming that my asperger’s was caused my trauma when I had been diagnosed with 2 disorders that are often comorbid with AS (ODD and ADHD) before the accident. Remember Asperger’s wasn’t even on DSM-IV until 4 years after my accident and wasn’t well known for another few years.

    P.S. How exactly would you know what to fake. I have taken some of those tests before (over the years)and its hard to do worse then you really can and seem believable. If you fake on a test like that you score below on everything and not just mental processing speed (because you would want to get low on everything, not just mental processing speed) make sense.
