‘Megan Had It Coming’ is a hoax and other news

MySpace Bully Talks Back (Maybe):

If you’ve been following the Megan Meier story like I have then you’re familiar with the ‘Megan Had It Coming’ blog. I’m not going to link to it because whoever is running it doesn’t deserve the attention. Anyway, it’s allegedly being posted by someone close to the situation who believes that Megan Meier deserved what she got. Some media outlets think it may actually be Lori Drew posting that blog. As a matter of fact, I had a journalist ask me my opinion on its authenticity yesterday. I think it’s a hoax and I’ll tell you why.

The posts at ‘MHIC’ are awfully similar to the comments left by someone calling themselves ANONYMOUS that posted on one of my Megan Meier entries. The e-mail address they used to leave a comment traced back to the MySpace of a 16-year-old black girl from Michigan. It is possible that ANONYMOUS was using a fake address that just happened to coincide with that MySpace but the MySpace in question has since been deleted ever since I made that fact public. The second reason I think it’s a fake is because ANONYMOUS’ IP address traced back to Louisville, KY. That’s roughly 260 miles from where the Drews lived. Now since the Drews have allegedly disappeared that might be where they’ve moved to but I can’t be certain of that without knowing the date that they moved. Another reason I think it’s a fake is that I would like to believe that even Lori Drew, in light of what’s happened, wouldn’t be that stupid or callous to make a blog called ‘Megan Had It Coming’.

However…

Woman Accused Of Setting Up False MySpace Page That Led To Girl’s Suicide Breaks Her Silence:
…it seems that Lori Drew is speaking through her attorney.

But now Drew denies she was even home when the malicious messages were being sent. “She didn’t find out about it until after Megan had taken her own life,” her lawyer Jim Briscoe told a U.S. network.

A police report contends that Drew asked an 18-year-old employee to create the false I.D., but there’s now some confusion about how it actually came into being and who sent the messages. She “did not create the MySpace account,” Briscoe maintains. “She did not instruct anybody to create the MySpace account. She never made any communications through the MySpace account.”

Her lawyer claims Drew is losing business because people are blaming her for the girl’s death and are afraid to be associated with her. Her own neighbours will no longer even talk to her. And if the motive really was to see what was being said about her own child online, that’s backfired, too. “Her daughter has had to drop out of school because of the harassment,” Briscoe reveals.

He claims even if she did have some knowledge about the existence of the site, she wasn’t aware of the kinds of notes being posted to the girl or she would have stopped it. “She wished she did. If she could turn back the clock, that’s the part she would do differently,” he insists.

Cry me a river. The Meiers aren’t buying it and neither am I. The Meiers are planning civil action against the Drews. I guess the Drews will have to come out of their hole eventually.

I think she’s full of it. She’s back pedaling now that the Meiers are planning a suit. Just read the police report DREW herself filed. She has probably convinced the 18 year old to take the heat since she is young and doesn’t stand to lose as much in a class action lawsuit. As far as Drew’s comment about wishing she could take it all back, I have no doubt that she does wish she could undo it…but not to save poor Megan. Just to save her own sorry ass from all the misery she has brought upon her own family.

Just about any time you see some troll under the name of “anonymous” trying to stir up controversy over a tragedy, it is usually someone from encyclopedia dramatica farming lulz.

I think you’ve got the hot lead on who created this offensive faux blog…I note that the person calling himself Onideus Mad Hatter also made another Blogspot blog related to the Megan Meier case on the same day this posting was made here. Both were made the day before the Megan Had It Coming blog appeared.

You can use fake IPs for screening.

Seems the detectives are now looking into the “had it coming” blog to see if in fact it is her doing. If it is found to not be her I hope they do make a stand and go after the person who is behind it. If it turns out to be her though i hope they bury her with it.
There was mention of bringing in a cyber crime unit. Which if you ask me should be put in place in every city and state now days for dealing with internet related crimes. Too much crime on the net goes on by without being prosecuted because many states attorneys just do not know how to deal with it or gather the needed evidence etc.
I hope if nothing else comes of Megans death that something changes in the way the laws regarding internet crimes are changed and worked with to help make them willing and able to prosecute more of them.

You should publish the IP address so that others can inestigate further…why not?

Since it was Lori’s daughter Sarah, who had the falling-out with Megan in the first place, could it not be possible that it was Sarah together with the Drews’ 18 year old employee Ashley Grills who were behind this, and Lori covering for Sarah?

If anyone is covering for anybody, I think its Ashley and Sarah covering for Crude Drew.

    I agree with Beowulf

Hmmm – It just makes more sense that it’s Sarah who was the one to have the falling-out with Megan in the first place – and Sarah’s got her mommy wrapped so tightly around her little finger that she’ll do anything for her. As for Ashley – it would really be interesting to find out if anyone in the Drew family paid her to perpetuate the hoax or if she just did it for her own sick entertainment.

It’s possible that this is a sophisticated form of jury research. Someone connected with the Drews’ attorney’s office (someone that the Drews themselves wouldn’t know by name, creating plausible deniability) but who is given access to some details of the case and is acting as a stalking horse.

This allows the the Drews’ attorney to gauge the full depth and breadth of anti-Lori opinion and form a defense against it.

I say this because some of the points “Lori” hammers on are what a good attorney would seek to highlight and have prevail in a civil case: that Megan was unstable, we really don’t know WHAT caused her to react that way–it could have been her parent’s own words, not the cyber bullying.

“Lori” makes the point twice that the FDA warns about the antidepressants Megan was using.

This all comes out sounding like an attorney using the “spaghetti method”: throw it against the wall and see what sticks. Use every factoid possible to sow doubt.

The mention of Columbine is impressive–it could be true that the Meiers would have been held responsible if Megan had killed others instead of herself.

The whole blog sounds too calculated and clever (smarter and more articulate than Lori Drew herself seems to be)–like a joint effort between some ambitious, savvy junior partners anxious to help defend a tort case for the boss. You get Lori Drew off, you’re bigger than OJ!

I read the post and most of the comments on the MHIC site, and I can only say that the hate expressed up there is sickening and so tell-tale of today’s society, and the disgusting content on our “open” Web today. I don’t think Ms. Drew started that blog (unless she’s a total moron and has no idea of how the Web works), but whoever did start it has mental problems themselves.

But the blog does expose the sickness prevalent in our society and especially on the Web. God help us all!
