Boy Who Plotted To Kill Classmates Avoids Any Time Behind Bars:
14-year-old Austin Mohr accepted a plea deal that would keep him from spending any time behind bars.
Mohr, who stood accused of plotting an attack against DeLand Middle School, pleaded no contest to
a charge of attempted threat to discharge a destructive device on school property. The original charges were conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to discharge firearm on school property.
The plea allows Mohr to escape any prison time. The only punishment Mohr received was 5 years probation and the court is trying to act like it's worse than jail...
The judge could end Mohr's probation at any time, but state attorneys defended any suggestion that the boy was getting off easy.
"That's not true, he is on probation for the next five years," explained Asst. State Attorney Amy Walker. "The court, as the judge said, he will have jurisdiction over this young man until he's 19 years old. That's the maximum allowable time a judge would have in any criminal case involving a juvenile."
So basically if he tries to plot again then he'll go to jail. I'm sure the students and parents of DeLand are feeling not very secure tonight.
Let's hear from Mohr himself...
"I am lucky that I'm not an older age or I would be in prison for five years," he said.
Notice he didn't say that he regretted what he did or that he was sorry. He's just thankful that he wasn't older.
To make matters even worse Mohr's attorney says probation could be dropped after only a year.
