Son Nearly Amputates Mom's Arm With Samurai Sword, Police Say:
Another new feature that I'm adding to the site is something I've been noticing over the past couple of years but reached a head on CrimeNe.ws v1.0 when we were a digg clone. There are a lot of crimes being committed with samurai swords or katanas if you will. And apparently there were enough of us on the original CN that were fans of the movie
Highlander that we used to comment on the crime by using the movie's catch phrase "There Can Be only One". So now that we've opened up the topics of crime on CN I felt that we can focus on these stories again.
For example...
LAUREL, Md. — A man attacked his 51-year-old mother with a samurai-style sword Tuesday, nearly amputating one of her arms, police said.
The man called police shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday, saying he was suicidal, and asked police to meet him, said Cpl. Debbi Carlson, a Prince George's County police spokeswoman.
He gave no indication he had hurt anyone when police and firefighters met him a few minutes later and took him to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, said Mark Brady, a county fire spokesman.
The mother called police from the same address at about 10:30 to report that her son had attacked her and run off. "The officers and dispatchers put two and two together," Carlson said.
The woman was taken to a trauma center in Baltimore for what Brady called "a near amputation" of one arm.
How much do you want to bet me that the suspect in question had a mullet.
