Child prostitution in Las Vegas

June 15, 2009

Activists Shine Light on Human Trafficking:

Let me just quote the first sentence of the article.

On any given night in Las Vegas more than 400 underage girls are used as prostitutes.

You know Las Vegas don’t you? It’s in Nevada, the state that has legalized prostitution in all but two counties. If someone was in Las Vegas and wanted to get themselves a hooker all they need to do is drive one county over. Apparently legalized prostitution in Nevada hasn’t done anything to curb child prostitution. Go figure.

The 2 counties without legalized prostitution are the ones with the problems with child prostitution as well as other forms of prostitution. So I would say legalization does put a dent in it substantially. There is just too much money in federal law enforcement assistance grants for fighting illegal prostitution, so the police don't want it legal because it would cut into their federal dollars. Here, the police have a vested financial interest in the child sex industry and promote it via opposing legal "adult" prostitution.

Do you know what's in those other counties besides hookers? Desert and that's pretty much it. There isn't going to be as high as a demand for child prostitution in those areas as there is Reno and Vegas.

    But keep rationalizing to yourself.

You note they dont actually go after the pimps. the point is to collect the bail and then hand the girl back to her pimp so she can punished for being arrested. The police are most offten an enforcement arm for the pimps keeping anyone who could help the girl leave as far away as possable

Can we stop calling them child PROSTITUTES? If she is under 18, how can she consent? She is NOT a prostitute – she is likely a slave in this billion dollar industry.

What about the people who purchase the sex? What about them? Why aren't they held accountable?

Hello – there are federal trafficking laws (which define a victim as anyone under the age of 18 forced into a commercial sex act) as well as statutory rape laws nation wide. The pimp – and the purchasor should both be held accountable.

    End Demand!
