You say that after society failed to even really try to help him (society knew abuse was going on and did nothing about it.) While you are right that he needs to be punished, it is the severity of the punishment you are proposing that worries me.

My bad. But my statement still stands. Being abused can’t be a license to lash out at society. The LGBT groups should be concentrating on helping gays not ensuring a sociopath will be able to strike again sooner rather than later.

You misread the story I think. The gay kid was the killed, a horribly abused (from birth) kid was the killer. Read better next time.

Sorry but this little murder isn’t the victim. I grew up the only Bi-racial kid in an all Black town in the 70s and got bullied plenty. I didn’t kill anyone, and by 14 I wanted to. The difference is I’m not a murderer, and this kid is.

Being part of a minority doesn’t mean you’re always the vicitim.

Nah, but I think we should recognize that an horribly abused 14 year old isn’t the same as a nonabused 14 year old and is certainly not the same as an adult. Hell you wouldn’t even let Cody Posey off the line for probably saving his own life by killing his abusers, most people didn’t. Tell me, do you give a damn that he spent so long being abused?

Yeah, but your kind washed your hands of him long before he killed. You cared little when he was living in an abusive home both to him and to each other. You cared little when his mother was doing drugs when she was having him. You cared little that his father nearly killed his mother.

You took pride in knowing that it was not our kid, that we are good parents to our kids and good spouses to our significant others.

What sort of future did he have from the start? Now you will stick him in jail for life, or brand him for life (basically leaving him to the same fate) and you will finally have washed your hands of the situation once and for all. Yeah, thats justice.

Reagrdless of what happens to him, he will certainly have a better chance at life than Lawrence ever will. Now that I think about it, who really gives a fuck what kind of chance he has at this point? Don’t delude yourself into thinking this little worm didn’t know what the was doing was wrong. Yet once again, here we are wringing our hands worrying about the fate of some little piece of refuse who killed a student in cold blood because he was gay and your worrying about HIS chance for a future…without a care for the future that he snuffed out….nice.

I love your name but I do have to respectfully disagree. I have no problem with him serving much longer then we would normally sentence of a juvenile to, as long as we don’t throw him in adult jail (adult mental hospital sure, jail no), but we have the sex offender registry because they are more likely to reoffend then other felons. If they deem this kid likely to reoffend (which I bet they won’t) fine place him on a registry, if not let the kid have a chance at a life. If we make him put his name on a registry we might as well not try him as a juvenile at all, because he certainly won’t have a chance at any sort of life on the outside.
