MySpace threat at Dover High

October 10, 2007

Dover teen charged after MySpace gun threats:

17-year-old Ian Blair of Dover, Ohio was arrested for threatening to kill students and a faculty member of Dover High School. Of course some of those threats were posted on MySpace.

The student also described a MySpace page allegedly created by Blair that features pictures of Blair holding a variety of guns in numerous poses. Ernest said police found the weapons locked in a case in Blair’s home and seized them. Blair admitted having picked the lock to gain access to the guns.

According to police, the Web page lists Blair’s blog topics, which include “(the teacher’s last name) takes one to the head” and “fruit loops drenched in your blood.” He listed Adolf Hitler as his hero.

Blair’s defense? Wait for it…are you ready?…here it is…He says it was a joke.

Blair told police the whole thing was just a joke relating to a recent college campus shooting. However, he did admit it could be seen as a threat and as inappropriate.

Yeah, that one has never been tried before. His lawyer even goes one better…

Defense attorney Erick Bauer dismissed the allegations against Blair as “an active imagination.” He urged Magistrate Joy Reed to release Blair and allow him to return to school.

Cho Seung-Hui had an active imagination too. The judge sent Blair back to detention. Not the stay after school kind either.

Ian Blair is an amazing person. No one knows him like we do. Yes, he may joke around alot, but he never means anything by it. It's just how he is. So fuck all of you people who think he's a bad person.

Since when does Innocent till proven guilty apply anymore? This was wrote before he was prosecuted. This is biased and immature. Yes, it was a cruel and completely stupid joke and is offensive, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a joke.

It doesn’t matter if it was a joke or not. When you post a threat online against a school you can pretty much expect a visit from local law enforcement.
