Two stories today.

The first is an update to an earlier story about a police officer that shot and killed 18-year-old Peyton Strickland through a door when he mistook the sound of a battering ram for a gunshot.

According to the story, the district attorney failed to get an indictment against Christopher Long, the shooter, though state prosecuturs are, quote, “reviewing the case”.

Long is no longer a member of the Emergency Response Team, which is entirely appropriate given what happened. As for legal action, well, hindsight is easy but none of us were there. The people in these teams often have to make difficult split-second decisions in potentially life-threatening situations, so I refuse to judge him on what happened.

The other story is an update to the November 3rd murder of a video game store clerk. Prosecutors have dropped the charges against one of the robbers, Randy West, citing insufficient evidence. Instead, they’re now looking at his accuser, one Michael Bowen, as a suspect.

Now, I watch Law and Order, so I know that this kind of thing happens all the time. But still, you’d think the prosecutors would have had a little common sense and looked into their stories before filing charges.
