cop who once headed a domestic violence unit held an ax to his wife’s head and twice threatened to shoot her – all because he didn’t like the birthday cake she bought him, sources said yesterday.”He was not a satisfied customer,” a law enforcement source said. “He wanted ice cream cake.”
Lt. William Doyle was released yesterday on $1,000 bond after being charged in the alleged five-hour barrage of threats at his 47th birthday party in the couple’s Staten Island home Monday.
“I could kill you right now and open up your head,” Doyle, the former head of the domestic violence unit in the 120th Precinct, allegedly warned his wife, sources said.
The sources said Doyle began the threats when his wife, Jean, 50, got to the house late for the party, around 4:30 p.m.
At some point, Doyle expressed his childlike discontent by pouring wine over the cake, sources said. It wasn’t clear what kind of cake she bought.
He allegedly threatened her with a pickax. The 14-year veteran also is accused of holding his department-issued 9-mm. handgun to the back of his wife’s head at their Princewood Ave. home in Prince’s Bay.
“I will kill you!” he screamed at her, according to court documents. “I will kill you!”
Before leaving about 9:40 p.m. for his midnight to 8 a.m. work shift, he grabbed his gun and threatened her again, a police report shows.
“Don’t f— with me,” he allegedly said, pointing the weapon at her ribs. “I’ll end this now.”
His 13-year-old daughter, Jenna, was at the party and witnessed the alleged threats, a police report shows. The couple also have a 24-year-old daughter, who declined comment late yesterday, and two sons.
I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a hostage situation over cake. Or maybe this is a plot for Tom Carvel to rule the world. Can anyone resist Fudgie the Whale?
