Ok. Let me get this straight. Brian Nichols is brought before an Atlanta judge on rape charges. He then overpowered a deputy and stole her gun. Then he shoots and kills the judge, Rowland Barnes, and the court reporter, Julie Ann Brandau, in front of scores of witnesses. Then as he made his escape he shot and killed sheriff’s deputy Hoyt Teasley. Then during his escape he shot and killed Special Agent David Wilhelm in his home and stole Agent Wilhelm’s car. Then he held Ashley Smith hostage for 12 hours. Then today his lawyer’s enter a not guilty plea? This is definitely a WTF moment. If he pled guilty he might have been spared the death penalty. But what do I know? I’m just some guy with an opinion. I do know that this makes criminal defense attorneys look even more like the dregs of society.
