Minnesota Triple Threat
April 8, 2005Three students arrested in separate school threat incidents:
It’s just like the headline says. 3 separate students in Minnesota were arrested for 3 separate threats against their school or other students…
Days after the March 21 shooting at Red Lake High School, a 14-year-old student at Minnetonka Middle School West allegedly threatened students through an instant messaging system. The teenager was charged with two counts of making terroristic threats. He remained in custody Thursday at a juvenile detention facility, Olson said.
In St. Cloud, a 17-year-old student from St. John’s Preparatory School was being held while authorities investigated an alleged threat to “shoot up the school.” Authorities seized a computer from the student’s St. Cloud home.
Also Thursday, a 16-year-old student at Coon Rapids High School was in juvenile custody while police investigated a possible threat against an individual student. The exact nature of the alleged threat was not disclosed, but police said there had not been a threat against the school, staff or any other students.
No reason has been given yet for the threats but I can guess that it was either about bullying or a prank.
If it was bullying, like I keep saying, you’re taking the school’s focus away from bullying and putting it on possible school shooters instead. If it was a prank, well, I’ll let Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson explain that one…
“Many times in these situations … there’s a cry for help somewhere,” Olson said. “I don’t know the risk level that we can take anymore and say, ‘Oh, this is just kids being kids.’ … We do not consider this type of behavior as joking or just kidding around.”
Ask yourself this kids. Is a prank really worth the jail time?
As always it was your pleasure.
